COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Note: Unaged, nameless version pre-released in september 2007. Officially released as Bötet Barley Wine in september 2008.

Hoppsan (151) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - NOV 1, 2013
25 cl bottle from Systembolaget. Lovely dark amber color. Cream and pineapple in aroma. Some roasted caramel and perhaps smoke in flavor. Way too sweet for my liking, but probably a nice complement to ice cream, chocolate or fruit cakes. Come to think of it, this would be great with Pannetone! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nip bottle courtesy of Hackobock (thanks Jacob!) poured a clear reddish amber with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of toffee, tobacco. dried fruit and light sherry. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, dried fruit, tobacco and light sherry with a smooth lingering toffee finish.

Nocturne (1992) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - OCT 19, 2013
2010 bottle. Pours out dark amber with a thin ring of head. Evolving aroma of fruit cake, cognac fruitiness, prune and chocolate. Slight medicinal quality. Taste is not quite so complex, more toffee-heavy, doesn’t show as many nuances as the aroma. Not as sweet as I thought. Mouthfeel a little thin and undefined. Solid barley wine but not top tier.

KyotoLefty (10254) - Kyoto, JAPAN - OCT 15, 2013
Bottle. Big treacly malt nose, oranges, nuts, something slightly meaty and savory. Orange-brown with lace. Oily, silky body. Sweet flavor of treacle, orange, caramel, with a peppery hop finish. Nice balance.

Pale brown color. Sweet malty, burnt raisins, brown sugar, frangelico, treacles, very strong nose. The mouth is sweet malty, with brown sugar and burnt raisins. Big full bodied, moderately hoppy. Warming. Enjoyable, but after the nose it is a bit directionless.

Scopey (14723) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 21, 2013
Bottle shared at the Pre-Zwanze. It pours dark brown with a small white head. The nose is freshly baked bread, fruit cake, raisin, toffee, brown sugar and light oxidation. The taste is raisin, toffee, earth, caramel, butterscotch, honey and sweet fruit cake. Medium body, moderate carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Wow...pretty damn sweet! A desert beer for sure, but a challenging drink if you don’t have a sweet tooth!

Bottle at the the Pre-Zwanze tasting - London. Thanks to Paul. Pours clear amber with a fine, creamy tan head. Nose has some oxidised malts, dried fruits, toffee. Big sweet flavor, pleasant aged character, toasty bread, dry toffee. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, lots of cake, toffee, figs. Very tasty stuff. The years have added some interesting nuance here.
