Thank you Jan, for this one. It’s almost black with a red hue and a golden head. The aroma is exciting with a load of "brunkager" (brown Christmas cookies), clove, prunes and roasted malt. The flavour is slightly sweet with a nice citrussy bitterness as counterweight. I find notes of spice, clove, nutmeg, orange peel, roasted malt and a lot of brunkager. This is a real Christmas beer, even if I had it in May 07. 2261

Many thanks to Ughsmash for this unexpected brew! Great use of dark malts. Good smoked presence, but a bit on the thin side. Wow, huge spiced aroma with some herbal action going on. Many layers of complexity make this a treat to just sit and sniff for awhile. Love the juniper in here. Finish that just lingers. Well crafted and a good choice Jason!

Bottled, thanks to lagomswedish! Poured a clear, deep garnet with a well-retained short beige head. Very much enjoyed the rich and most assuredly spicy aroma.. dark fruits at the core with cumin, coriander, and herbal notes surrounding... complex and intriguing, and it really opened up toward room temp. Sweet toffee, dark fruit, and herbal base with layer upon layer of spices.. again the cumin and corinader paired with dry peppery notes.. well-crafted. Almost medium-bodied, complex, and spicy on the palate.. long, dry finish. Very good one!

Bottle at Chris_O London bottlefest March 07. Very dark ruby. Thin beige head. Slight sour aroma. Decent malts. Bit disappointing really and I don’t think I liked it as much as the others.

ChrisFest Dark and mildly medicinal and honeyed. Some sugar comes through. Finish is perhaps vague, though soft bitterness lingers. Very drinkable brown ale and reasonably interesting and individual as a number of Scandinavian beers are.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2008 A Mes rate: 50cl bottle at Chris O’s extravaganza. Firstly I love the fairly random alcohol % on the bottle of 5.9 - 6.1%. Hazy red/brown colour with a slight light tan head. Spicy aroma with quite a lot going on. Notes of marmite, barley, alcohol and nutmeg. Flavour is similar with some extra roasted nuts and some saltyness but a little too much clove. Vanilla then hops in the finish and a nice gradual warmth.

Bottled - Chris_O Fest March 07. A dark, dark brown coloured beer with an off-white coloured head. The aroma is very spicy with cinnamon and cloves together with brown fruits and alcohol. The taste is very spicy also. A touch phenolic. Some chocolate nots. Nice and Christmassy.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2007 Courtesy of omhper. Pours brown with a thin ring of tan bubbles scattered about the glass. Smells of caramel, brown sugar, raisins, roses, chocolate, lots of holiday spices. Tastes of chocolate, cinnamon, some mellow bitterness, Lots of holiday flavors. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but the finish is sweet and leaves me wanting more.

Bottled. Clear, copper-colored beer with a beige, almost tan head. Cloves, roasted malt, christmas-spices and vanilla in the aroma. The flavor has much the same, with cloves, roasted malt and some vanilla. Full to medium body. A nice, christmasy Christmas beer. (070213)

Medium creamy offwhite head. Deep dark brownish red body with some carbonation. Burnt, malty harmonic aroma with cinnamon notes. Deep, balanced burnt wooden taste with vanilla, smoke, and caramel notes. Very well made. Extremely drinkable, considering how unusual it is. Very good. (0.5l bottle.)
