[A] Great mix of aromas. Maltiness releases sweet caramel, cookie, toffee, bready, brown sugary smells. Whilst the hops are very pungent, piney citrus. A wet oaky waft is a great touch over a spot of alcohol. [A] A ruby-amber hued brew. With a respectable tan cap. Thin foam never quite disappears. Beer sits calmly in glass. [F] The rosy oak character seems to hit me up front. Along with a blast of very harsh bittering hops. Malt seems far out of focus to the tastebuds this evening. Caramel sweetness very subdued, even on end. [P] The oak seems to add a pleasant dry character. And the hops are phenomenally bitter. But this is seemingly a one-and-done brew. Touch too much for an extended session. Although, Iím always up for a challenge. [O] I love hoppy brews, and Iíve enjoyed regular AB before, but this didnít quite hit the spot tonight. Single bottle. Will sometime revisit.

Originally rated on 2/22/09. Oaked bastard pours a foreboding brown-amber body, with thin off white cap. Flavors were many and complex, initial taste of citrus fruits then the vanilla and smokey oak hints battle the bitter hops, finally the nutty maltiness makes an appearance, with the bitterness clinging on for the finish. the worst thing about this was the price but you get what you pay for, overall it is a very impressive beer

Refrigerated brown bomber poured into a glass. Clear Amber with small beige head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, lower carbonation, and some small-bubble lacing. Taste is caramel malt, big oak, and earthly.

Keg Half Pint at White Horse American Beer Festival 2009, Parsons Green, London in July 2009 - Mahogany Red in colour. Aggressively hopped; citrus piney oily hops. Solid malts; roasty malty, caramel, toffee. Fruity; citrus. Smoother than the original unoaked version, i.e. rather toned down. Sweetish throughout with a bitter hoppy finish. (2009-07)

Having a Stone Oaked Arrogant Bastard after Double Bastard, again enjoying it more than I thought. Has a more moderate alcohol than the powerful Double. The hops are less marlelade-y (which I loved) and more piney and grapefruit-pithy, a touch leafy. The oak wood intertwines beautifully, a real balancing act and overall more delicate than expected. Stone Box rocks! This brewer really doesnít make gimmick beers.

Smells of sweet malts and huge scent of the oak wood with a hint of raisen. A beautiful redish brown color with small off white head. Heaps of malt Flavor ceasing the palate then tons of bitter hops coming out. Finishing off nicely with a touch of booze and brown sugar, choppy bitter ending but very complex and enjoable. Full body brew with Juicey carbonation. Great tasting brew love all the back and forth with the sweet and bitterness. Nice work!

Bottle at Ran and Daleís. Thanks Melody! 2013 bottle. Subtle oak and smoke, a little red fruit. Woodsy and bitter and a little dry. Dry mouthfeel and full-bodied - a little bit oxidized but good nonetheless.

Bottle, 660ml. A clear dark reddish beer with some sediments and a small foamy head. Deep oaked aroma of malt, spices, alcohol and firewood. Taste is bitter with a strong malt finish. Robust bodied with some carbonation and astrigency. Rich aftertaste of malt and spices with an alcoholic finish. A proper American Strong Ale.

Bottle, 660ml. Deep reddish with heavy sediment and a lively, frothy brown head. Rich roasted caramel and fruity aromas. Medium to robust bodied with moderate carbonation. Sweet malt character with a stinging dry hoppy bitterness. Absolutely delicious, this is how beer should be.
