Cask; Occasional.
Big, dark malt flavours in this almost black beer combine with a sweet, fruity hop taste to make this strong porter exceedingly drinkable for its strength.

Cask gravity at the St Albans BEER festival 2016. A mahogany brown coloured pour with a lasting sticky beige head. Aroma is sweet nutty malts, cocoa, black malts, woodland berries. Flavour is composed of soft nutty malts malts, tangy red berries, cranberry, burnt cocoa. Little. Mineral. Palate is semi sweet, medium light, maybe a little thin, good cask condition. Decent drop.

Tried this bad boy at the cardinals hat, Lincoln. Note to self. The cardinals hat in Lincoln is at the bottom on steep hill, which although in the very flat county of Lincolnshire, is well... steep, therefore the tables outside arent flat, next time try not to lightly bang my knee on table and send my beer half way down the hill. Anyway this beer has a Deep Ruby to black colour with a tan head, decent roasted and fruity aroma with a hoppy depth. Taste light sweet to roasted bitter finish. Decent body

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Covent Garden, London, 26 Apr 2015) Black colour with foamy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with black coffee, cacao and liquorice. Malty, roasted, slightly fruity taste with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, sweet black coffee, dark fruit and a balanced roasted bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. Well made porter with a fruity touch. Nice one.

Cask at the Swan and Rushes, Leicester. Very dark brown, creamy head. Lacing is impressive. Sweet marshmallow, liquorice and Ovaltine aroma. The initial innocuous sweet taste quickly turns bitter, chalky and intense. Medium palete. Plentiful natural carbonation. In one word: good.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Black with a creamy off-white head. Full-bodied ale with both a sweet and fruity nose. Its less stated in its taste, but those aspects are here against the backdrop of darker malts.

tombyars (1640) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - JUL 22, 2014
Tasted this at the GRAF, in The Briggait, Glasgow on the 27th June 2014. Cask, gravity dispense. Pours a dull black with a thin buff head. Malty aroma with sweet notes of dark Bournville chocolate in the long nose. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a dry chocolate sponge base with sweet black treacle present in the mouth. There is a slight note of damp earthy hops present in the brief aftertaste but this fades fast. Malt returns in the sweet finish with burnt treacle and plain chocolate flavours evident in the palate. An ok session porter but lacked the body and complexity of Milton Nero despite the higher ABV!
