Cask: Regular (previously Occasional). Also available bottled at 4.8% - filtered but unpasteurised.
Tart gooseberry and soft peach on the nose. Gooseberries and fruit to taste, before an intense bitterness that’s as sharp as a macaw’s screech!

A: Cloudy amber with a small off-white head N: Amber malts, cough syrup T: Minty and bitter, amber malt P: Medium O: I really struggled to finish this beer. A rather disagreeable flavour combo.

0.5l from bottle bought at Waitrose. Classical British golden ale, with a nice touch especially to Amarillo hops. Bitter and dry finish

From bottle at Doolittles. Clear gold with a thin white head. Fruity nose. Tart fruit flavors, some underlying sweet malt and hay. Light body, lingering fresh, bitter finish.

I like Oakham beers although there isn’t a lot of variety - the pine/citrus/tartness is a characteristic of most, if not all. Scarlet Macaw is perfectly drinkable, but on this occasion I was left with the distinct impression that it is at the lower end of the Oakham offerings in flavour and freshness. Citra still reigns supreme. Scarlet Macaw, in comparison, is a bit lifeless, flat and quite stale. Beautiful colour though!

500ml bottle. Good on the nose, plenty of citrus and lingering aftertaste. Excellent accompiment to savoury dishes and cheese particularly.

hohops (1096) - Kent, ENGLAND - MAY 17, 2017
Appearance is amber, with a solid cream head. Aroma- very fruity and orangey, fruitcake, marmalade. Taste- fruit, orange, soft malts, marmalade on toast, subtle hop bitterness. Good.

On tap (cask) at Williamson’s Tavern, Bank (London) on 27-Mar-2017. Clear golden colour with a large white head. Aroma of malt, cereal, herbs and pine. Light body and soft carbonation. Taste of caramel, orange, grapefruit and biscuit malt. Smooth and creamy. Light bittersweet fruity finish. Good session ale.

Tasting at Matt’s, 4.8% ABV
Hazy golden color. Weedy hops in the aroma. Cereal flavor, some chamomile, some weed hops; definitively old, stale, but not bad.

Cask pint at Tennant’s on Byres Road, Glasgow. A light golden colour. Sizable head.

500ml bottle @ Matt’s. Pours a clear orange copper colour with no head. Nose is unpleasant something with malty backing. Flavour is not much better, herbal and bitter. Sadly I just have to say no :(
