Crystal clear, rich, smooth, brown. Malt and alcohol blended nicely. This was drunk at the start of a session at SilkT’s insistence with the Museum, No. 1, barley wine. I wisely tried this first so as not to unnecessarily bias my palate. Probably not as good as its pier but lovely all the same. Strong long palate.

Cask (gravity dispense) at Ealing Beer Festival, May 2006. Deep red colour. Full roasty malt and treacle aroma underlaid with raisins and other dried fruit. Lots of plummy fruit on the palate with soft caramel and hints of bitter cherry. Smooth and sumptuous mouthfeel. Not too sweet, nor is the alcohol too intrusive. Cracking stuff. An excellent winter warmer (even if, for some inexplicable reason, it appeared in May on this occasion).

Bottle Hazy, deep black bod. Lightly brown, creamy head. Aroma of coffee, liquor, molasses, chocolate: very nice and complex. Moderately bitter, lightly sweet flavour.

BCA (from Bottles of Botley, BBE Aug 07). Very lightly conditioned. Mahogany coloured. Lots of rich and well balanced flavours. Light chocolate and cold coffee, brown sugar, malts and faint raisin aromas. Beer On Broadway. Nice full and full bodied, with sweet chocolate and caramel flavours. It is on the sweeter side, but a nice hit of warming (but not overpwering) alcohol in the finish helps to balance it out. I thought this was a great beer.

bottle at home ... Red brown ... little roast fruit malt ... sweet syrupy fruit ... strong roast malt fruits rich caramel ... some chocolate ... little cherry.
