Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 1st July 2010. Almost black with thin off-white head. Rich malts and slight notes of coffee and vanilla - almost like a mild version of Milton Nero. Zingy mouthfeel and highly quaffable. Very well kept in the pub. Spiesy (2338) - Sydney, Greater London, AUSTRALIA - JUL 5, 2004
Cask Conditioned, at the Wenlock Arms, London. bluekuma (94) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 8, 2007
Wow!! How good was this beer. Rich black and opaque. The beer looks like a pint of oil, with the slightest of purple shines. Rich liquorice aroma. Juicy and lovely. I could have drunk this all day. Stout like and massive in flavour despite it’s low ABV. Beer this flavoursome you could drink forever and not get drunk.
Bottle-conditioned. Brown-edged black with little head. Oily roasty aroma. Great swirl of chocolatey/cocoa-y flavours, some slight bitter burnt notes and a touch of powdery hop. Long roasty, bitter finish. A good full-flavoured mild. downender (8660) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 13, 2008
On gravity at the London Drinker festival 12/3/08. Near black with a decent tan head that left plenty of lacing. Big aromas of roasted malt, black fruit and dark chocolate. Full in the mouth with plenty of milk chocolate and fruit flavours, before some earthy hops and a dent bitter finish. Excellent. maeib (8749) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - MAY 22, 2010
Cask conditioned handpump Evening Star Brighton. A black beer with a good bubbly beige head. An excellent smoky roasty mild with chocolate licorice and fossil fuel flavours together with a little sweetness. A very competent and tasty mild.
