The mouthfeel and quaffability are where Lost Arm Saison really shine. Because of the tea, the beer coats my mouth with a subtle savoriness. The flavor of the tea melds completely with the beer, it’s barely discernible unless you have a cup of tea on hand to help identify the flavor. The tea does lend a touch of welcome astringency. This is an ultimate summer beer. Drink pints, quarts, or maybe gallons. Anxious to try the wild barrel aged versions.

Draft at 16 Tons, Eugene. Pours a cloudy golden amber color, little to no head, lots of lacing. Aroma tea, some funky notes. Body lively yet dry, finish crisp and a bit sweet, tea prominent.

What an amazing Saison. Unfiltered. One of the best of the style I have ever had.

Gin barrel version, on tap at Brouwer’s Big Wood 2011. Light transparent orange, with a soapy head. Fresh herbs and citrus on the nose – clean, refreshing – a bit of mint, and a very light hop contingent. Glides over your palate – smooth, and lovely. I could drink this all day long.

Couple of pints with my friends at 16 Tons who brewed this beer in conjunction with Oakshire. Hazy yellow pour with a solid white capper. This one tastes and smells of the yeast, a little wheat, some pepper and the Oolong tea which adds a subtle tang to the whole proceedings. Eminently quaffable, I will likely be drinking quite bit of this over the next couple months.

Tap @ Oakshire Hellshire I Day... Poured cloudy yellow with a white head. A nice dry Saison, thirst quenching with good carbonation and yeast tones. Well spiced, and the tea seemed to provide some body and herbalness, but I couldn’t quite distinguish the Green Oolong Tea flavor. Finished crisp and dry. Great lawn mower beer.
