Nice roasted malt character, with a little hops and alcohol and a smooth drinkability that stood out even amongst some really nice brews. Good strong ale, though I liked the very itg a little more." onceblind (9418) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 23, 2014
Clear dark amber under a sticky lacy light beige head. The aroma is earthy nutty with a dark malt syrupiness with a odd but very welcoming herbal background. Nice flavor of Rosemary and some sort of herbal tone with some earthy malt tones, light nuttiness, a little Yrba Mate tea, and a light touch of earthy resiny hops on the finish. A little herbal for my liking but balanced and nuanced. luttonm (6166) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 8, 2014

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2015 A nice wooden barrel scent comes to the forefront at first sniff. Lots of dark goodness in here, all blended seamlessly. Pours dark brown/ruby with creamy beige head and sticky lacing. Taste is smooth, rich, slightly spicy, roast grains, toffee, peat, pipe tobacco. Nice gingerbread lingering on the palate afterwards. Really nice! 2015 re-rate: not as impressed this time around, standard English ale characteristics, just average Frahmo (316) - Idaho, USA - DEC 7, 2013
22 bomber, brown pour with a finger of head. Malty all the way through with a tinge of spice. The malts overpower the hops in this one, hard to tell if they are even in there. Still pretty good overall.

Cola appearance with barky cola notes in aroma and taste with burnt toffee into the finish. $4/22oz Syzzer (647) - Oregon, USA - NOV 30, 2013
On tap @ brownes towns- watery body, good sticky off white head. A bit of stale hops, bitter finish. Dark transparent brown color. 6.5 bd. Harsh, not much to it. 5 jd puboflyons (3400) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - NOV 30, 2013
From the 650 ml. bottle. It pours mahogany brown to medium amber with a long lasting mocha head. Aroma of malts, coffee, salt, cream, and vague fruit. Interesting. The body is medium and creamy in texture. The taste is more malty than anything else with a kind of cellar and cardboard quality. halfwayhouse (14) - - NOV 26, 2013
Delicious winter ale. Always look forward to the gnome’s release. Oakshire makes some darn good beers. douglas88 (9056) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 24, 2013
On tap at Orenco Taphouse. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium tan head. A light chocolate nose, some caramel and light spices. A nice mix of fruity hop bitterness, dry chocolate and sweet caramel malts. This is a solid brew.
