Bottle:   Dark dirty caramel, huge fluffy light beige head, very nice lacing.   Looks top notch.   Faint roasted malt nose, slight biscuit, a little bit of peat.   For an English Strong Ale this one isnt as mealy or disgustingly rich as others, which is a nice change of pace.   This one has a pretty good hop bite to it.   Balances well up front with the normal heavy biscuitiness of English Strong Ales.   This one actually doesn’t have that huge heavy malt driven backbone. &bnsp Instead, it has a bit of a hop forward punch.   Could use a little more malt at the backside to balance the hop bitterness when it warms.   While up front its decent, you soon see that as the hop lingers you want to have some more malt backing.   Easier than most to drink, but could use a little bit more balance towards the end.   Otherwise, fairly tasty. blutt59 (6598) - Dallas, Texas, USA - JAN 7, 2011
bottle, dark amber colored pour with off white foam, dry coffee aroma with a meaty flavor of coffee and dark nutshells, bitterish finish Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - DEC 31, 2010
Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a dark amber color with a white head. The aroma is toffee, caramel and maybe a little bit of spices. The flavor is very similar and is very malty. I get a lot of chocolate and toffee notes, as well as some spices and some grass notes. Fairly sweet overall. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Draught. Poured red black with thin fast dissipating head. Aroma is hop citrus, toffee and smoke. Medium to light body. More toffee and sweet malt. Lasting finish, with enough hop to keep from being sicky sweet. benjaminbier (45) - Oregon, USA - OCT 10, 2010
Bottle, cute gnome label on the front. Happy red cap to open. Feeling like the holidays already. Pours a rich deep brown with a foamy, caramel tinted color. Smelling like strong cocoa and smokey toffee. Taste is well balanced malts and hops, clean finish. Mouthfeel is a light and a bit thin, but balances well with the light finish. Glad to see this is back in stores for the season.
