Brown and clear beer. Has a sweet and malty caramel smell. Flavor is sweet with a slight tartness, mild funk in the end. Well balanced.

Appearance: hazy amber-brown with two fat fingers of fluffy beige head, good retention and patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: dried fruit, brown/burnt sugar, bready yeast. (8/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, moderate-low bitter. (8/10) Palate: medium body, lively carbonation, mildly sweet warming finish. (3/5) My second kick at this particular cat: I actually bought one of these at the brewery last summer, but made the lamentable error of throwing it in the freezer for a little chill, then letting She Who Must Be Obeyed convince me I didn’t need to run back to the room to take it out. I coulda cried. Anyway, on to the beer. I’m still trying to figure out the Bière de Garde style, despite the fact I’ve had three or four of the BJCP reference examples. The thing is, this can vary all the way from blonde to brown, and I think this might be the darkest of the style I’ve ever had. Add to the fact that there’s a couple years’ cellaring on this, and you’ve got something that, except for the carbonation and lower ABV, I’d be hard-pressed to distinguish from an Abt or Quadrupel. And not a bad one, either. (14/20)

Bottle, shared at SuperBowl Party poker event. Medium brown with golden highlights, bubbly tan head. Burnt sugars, bread crusts, dates, mild Belgian yeast esters. A touch sweet, but I liked the bready quality here. Nice.

bulldogops (2490) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 29, 2017
Rating #2391 - 2016.03.24 - Bottle from CBI. Pours a hazy amber brown with a frothy white head, not much lacing. Aroma is of caramel. candy sugar, mild citrus. Clean mouthfeel, medium carbonation, mild alcohol warmth. Taste is a crisp sweetness, tempered with herbal notes, mild funk. Sublime.

reebtogi (6235) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 29, 2016
750ml corked bottle pours a dark amber brown color with a 2 finger light beige head that leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark fruits with some caramel and yeasty notes. Taste is a dark fruity and caramel malty sweetness with herbal bitterness. Light to medium bodied with abundant carbonation. An enjoyable brew that is well balanced and a good representation of the style.

Admittedly, i\ve not had many biere de garde. This was a dark brown, yeast heavy belgian with a lot of caramel and sugar. Pretty good.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

shaynsawchuk (681) - Mississauga, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 4, 2015
750 mL bottle. 8 mos. old give or take. Clear mahogany with a long lived head of khaki. Crusty, dark bread on the nose, with raspberry, raisin, cocoa powder and a bit of chewing gum. Dry with a hint of caramel malt, little in the way of hopping, but balanced with a touch of tartness and some yeasty bite. High carbonation and moderate body, a food friendly brew, refined.

cfrancis (3407) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 28, 2015
Pours dark ruby with a big frothy beige head. Aroma is huge sickly sweet caramel and toffee. Taste is again sickly sweet caramel malt, too much in my opinion. Overlays the small raisin and farmy yeast. Thanks to my sis for this.

mabel (9246) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 8, 2014
[5842-20130919] 750mL bottle. Light honey grain malt aroma. Slightly hazy, dark red brown body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Boozy ginger fruit flavour. Full body. Good, simple. (7/4/7/4/14) 3.6
