3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
April 1, 2016 - at Bar Hop (King) - on draught. Deep burnt brick red with a slightly diminishing tan head. Aroma is fruit and alcohol - quite vinous, not super sweet. Taste is quite alcohol-bitter (oak?) but not really hoppy - like crushed grape seed (that's the must, I guess) - hint of cocoa; like an eis/alt hybrid. Decent body, light carbonation, medium-long boozy-seedy bitter finish; solid, if woodier and maltier than most.
Smells smoky and dank. Brown tan head that is creamy, opaque. Very chewy and dessert but not overly sweet, some vanilla, very decadent. Delicious. JoeMcPhee (10224) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 9, 2016
Very dark, almost still pour. Good clarity. The nose has coffee and some toasted malt. Fairly light palate for something at this ABV. Bright and a bit peppery. Sweetness is restrained but there is a bit of a slickness on the palate. Brown sugar, light cocoa and a warming ethanolic finish. Lovely. Subtle brew. chris__hartley (459) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 18, 2016
It pours basically opaque black; the head is beige and foamy. The aroma has notes of: toffee, coffee, and short bread. The taste is medium sweet and finishes medium bitter; there are notes of: toffee, burnt sugar, and molasses. The palate is medium bodied with light carbonation and a medium finish. Overall, it’s meh. pootzboy (1833) - Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 28, 2016
On tap @ the bent elbow - deep dark brown, not much cap, rich maltiness with prunes and a vinous note lightly sweet, thins in the finish, hides the alcohol well. A decent Eisbock made in the traditional way but a tad too :"port-like" for my liking
