   AROMA 6/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 4/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 10/20

Huge yellow-beige head; dark brown beer with Burgundy highlights. Very fruity nose, oranges and strawberries mixed, with a little grape and liquorice thrown into. Nose dulls towards liquorice cookies in the finish. Unpleasant liquorice taste - purely the japwater (boiled liquorice gel) of my youth. Burnt, rubbery edge around thin watery liquorice tea. Thin, aggressively burning MF. Disappointing, and not very Baltic, IMO. Kiev Vikings lost their touch after all the centuries?

Rating from 2006. Dunkelbraun, fast schwarz im Glas. Dickflüssig, schokoladig-fruchtig, zum ende hin etwas alkoholisch-schaf. Interessant...

Draught at green week Berlin. Black with a light red hue. Aroma and flavour of toasted malt with a light vanilla cream. Palate is dry roast.

A rating from an old notebook. Very attractive dark ruby/brown, thin tan head. Fantastic aroma of dark chocolate and fruitcake. Unfortunately the taste doesn’t compare to the smell as this is quite a thin and metallic beer albeit with a quite satisfying roasty malt. Not sure that I’ve ever had a beer with an aroma and taste so far apart.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Rich treacle and marmite porter. Good carbonation. Not dry or bitter. Malty finish.
