Tap at Volo mabel (9246) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 10, 2011
Aroma aromatic with fresh hint of menthol ,dark malts on slightly harsh hop feel , anise?
Appearance opaque black with medium beige top. Light fragmental ring. 3+
Flavor and Palate : Medium bodied. Frontal dark tart feel , strong notes of licorice with bitter leafy top. Slight roast with chocolate sides. Leafy bitter top-end. Strong cask treatment feel on top. Very different.
[3762-20110620] Tap. Mild sugary maple wood aroma. Hazy, dark red body with a quick bubbly head. More woody maple sugar in the flavour with quite a boozy bite. Medium-full body. Interesting, quite sneaky with the booze. (6/3-/7/3/14) 3.3

Sample at Arrow & Loon cask festival. 26JN11. JoeMcPhee (9454) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 28, 2011
App.: Deep mahogany with no head.
Aroma: Deep, tangy, fruity, woody, chocolate, coffee, herbal, some grapefruit, resin, pine, all over the place (or at least all over Ontario...).
Palate: Medium body, nearly flat.
Flav.: Chocolate, raisins, dark dried fruits, citrus, berries, a bit tangy, some herbal notes, a bit of vanilla; off-dry with a little tang and big bitterness.
Interesting. Paid $6 for the sample...a little much, I think.
Deep dark brown pour, tending to black. Tight tan head. The nose is completely laden with bourbon and a bit of herbal sort of sweetness. There is a lot of bourbony character along with a little bit of soft sweetness as well. A light touch of molasses and some dark toasted character as well. That herbal oakiness reminds me of barrels that used to hold Posiedon or Leviathan way back in the day. There is a little bit of tartness toward the finish as well as well as some late hoppiness. I don’t know why they’re calling this an IPA - it’s an American Strong and a pretty nice one at that. Colour me surprised.

A reddish brown ale with a thin light moka head. A light herbaceous, woody aroma, a bit of licorice, dark fruits, some bock qualities. In mouth, a dark visous and hoppy concoction, with molasse, wood estract, lingering woody bitterness, interesting. On tap at Arrow and Loon, Ottawa Cask Festival, June 26 2011. pushkinwow (2851) - Ottawa, CANADA - JUN 26, 2011
Cask sample at the first Arrow & Loon Cask Festival. Cloudy dark brown with no head. Vanilla, bourbon, wood, plum and some malts. No carbonation, medium bodied, starts sweet, nice dry finish, some booze/bite at the end. Wasn’t sure what to expect but it was interesting. barncatmatt (2287) - Cambridge, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 26, 2011
on cask at the golden kiwi. flat and brown. hoppy and roast nose with barrel influence as well. muddled flavour of beers that shouldnever have been blended. bitter bourbon finish. not worth the effort but a cool experiment. jercraigs (10651) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 21, 2011
UPDATED: SEP 20, 2011 2011-09-18. Very dark brown-black body with a tiny beige head. 3+ Sharp flavour up front with mild alcohol character, dark malt, sort of sugary character, muted wood, bourbon. 7+ Aroma is well blended, bit of bourbon and alcohol. Sweetish with malt and a touch of sugary caramel notes. 7+ Smooth medium bodied palate. 3+ Oak has mellowed with time to its benefit in my opinion. The beer as a whole is more well rounded and drinkable. I like it, not love it but its quite nice. 7/4/7/4/16 - 3.8 On tap at Brewers Market, Toronto Sammy (12491) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 21, 2011
2011-07-20. Ruby tinged dark brown body, near headless. Sweet fruity aroma, sweet vanilla oak. Flavour is similar, fruity character, mild bitterness, then fairly prominent oak from here on out. The fruit makes a come back in the aftertaste, regaining some prominence. 6+ Smooth medium to full bodied palate is a bit flat, to its detriment, put perhaps reflects the fact that it was tapped a few days ago. The oak works well with the flavours for the most part, but steals the limelight a bit too much for my own tastes. An intriguing result overall, I could not have imagined what this combination of base beers would taste like before trying it! 7/3/6/3/14 - 3.3 Cask at Brydens, Toronto
Bryden’s gravity cask. A lot going on. Significant bourbon smell. Oatmeal stout with lots of hops. A good black colour, winey looking. Lots of chocolate, good mouthfeel. Coconut from the barrelling, in the finish. A hint of vanilla. Cask bubbles head. A little sugar and rum. Great cask.
