Well held, creamy tan head atop an almost bright, midnight brown body with very fine, very sparse carbonation. Mocha-macchiato coffee notes and Vegemite predominately on the nose with just a touch of leather and smoke. Has all the right gear in the mouth, it just doesn’t come together as I’d hoped. Medium bodied, rounded and smooth. Very smoky, with buttery notes and burnt caramel, sweet fudge and hints of stewed rhubarb. Long, smoky, burnt wood swallow, a little sugary mess resides, quite bitter and drawing. Really preferred the Brown over this one, but it’s still an easy drinker. Just above the norm! Part of the tasting line up at the brewery, which is no longer Wildwood in Perth, but Occy’s Brewery in the Margaret River region. Very dark brown, thin brown head. Assertive coffee aroma. Flavours of coffee and burnt malt. Rather thin mouthfeel, but nowhere near as thin as the brown. Mildly bitter finish. bluevegie (3938) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - APR 5, 2007
Tried on tap @ the newly located brewery called Occys Brewery. Black in body with light tan head, good stout characters in the taste. Vegemite, milky coffee and liquorice.
