A second example of Kvass that I’ve tried, noticeably different from the other brand (Buket Chuvashii) and I think I very slightly prefer this one. Can from Bell’s Market in NE Philly. Pours very dark brown, coffee-like: almost opaque. About a centimeter of thick, foamy head dissipates quickly, leaving thin but persistent carbonation. Strong aroma of pumpernickle and molasses, hints at worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, or dark rice vinegar. Sweet and sour; neither the sweetness nor sourness is unpleasant. Very balanced. Rich, heavy, extremely filling, like drinking liquid bread.
Классический магазинный квас. Запах черного хлеба присутствует. Мешает лишь одно дикая сладость в послевкусии. В меру карбонизирован . Beerhunter111 (21762) - P´Castle, GERMANY - SEP 3, 2017
Many thanks to Erzengel for sharing! A dark brown colour, small beige head. Aroma of dark roasted malt, liquorice, wood, tart frutis. taste of sweet dark malt, sugar, melasse, red fruits, okay! Erzengel (9078) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - AUG 26, 2017
500ml can from a Russian supermarket in Wuppertal, 1.2% Sourish malty nose. The beer starts malty with sweetish hints. Nice fruity sourness over a not too sweet body. Nice refreshing, malty but the sourness is a bit strange. Nice though. rayaron (1919) - Kfar Saba, ISRAEL - JUN 25, 2016
Plastic bottle sample at a tasting at troubles’s place. Thanks DSG. Deep amber with no head. Aroma of sweet jam with plum and sugar. Sweetish flavor, sourish, notes of jam and plum, sugary, dry, watery. Quite light-bodied. zvsn (2188) - ISRAEL - JUN 24, 2016
Plastic bottle sample at a tasting, thanks DSG. Murky brown color. Aroma of caramel and raisins. Sweet, flavors of caramel, rye bread, citric acid and prunes. Sticky.

Plastic bottle shared at a tasting at troubles’s place. Brown. Aroma of caramel, cookie, some rye, citric acid, chocolate. Flavor is quite sweet, slightly sourish, with caramel, sugar, cookie, citric acid, a bit of rye, bread and some dark fruit. An OK Kvass. 500ml can in a cafe in Bayswater in the sunshine. As ’Kbac Очаковсk (or at least this is as close as my browser allows), ’HOMEP 1*’, 1.2%, canned two months ago. Cola brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is raisin and cola. Body is light, tingly carbonation, a touch foamy. Taste is raisin, rye bread, thin cola, demerara. It’s an OK alternative to a straight soft drink. Pretty much tastes like a thin bready version of cola. andrepintado (3543) - Lisbon, PORTUGAL - SEP 8, 2015
50cl can from russian supermarket. Dark brown color. Thin beige head. High sweetness. Body is oily. Flavour is bread, butter, chocolate, caramel, roasted. ciocanelu (2791) - Timisoara, ROMANIA - JUL 29, 2015
UPDATED: DEC 15, 2015 Dark ruby color with just a bit of head. Burnt sugar aroma and some dark fruits. Taste follows the nose along with some fruity tartness. Overall seems like a tart cherry drink with some burnt sugar. Not bad at all, expected something different. vinivini (2661) - Gomel, BELARUS - JUN 13, 2015
Deep brown to black, thick off-white head. Good retention & thick lacing. Aroma of zest, malts, acids, some fruity notes. Light to medium body. Soft carb. The flavour is a well-balanced combination of moderate sweetness & delicate sourness. Same finish. Very solid.
