12 ounce bottle from the brewery. Dark brown-orange, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of oak, vanilla, whiskey, toffee. The taste is toffee, grape, oak, booze. Medium bodied, hot. 300th Barleywine!

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a snifter. Opaque brown with small beige head. Aroma is caramel malt, medium body, medium carbonation, and small-bubble lacing. Taste is caramel malt, wood, cognac, and a little bourbon.

Bottle. Pours dark amber with tan head. Aroma is sweet tart fruit and malts. Taste is sweet malty toffee bitter with a bitter barrel finish. I dumped it. Not my thing.

Bottled 01/16. So a year on it. Pours opaque Brown, off white head. Aroma is fig galore, dark fruit, raisin, plum, caramel, brown sugar, boozy bourbon sweetness, vanilla. Flavor is very sweet, saccharine, little astringent, boozy, sticky sweet sugary prune juice. Wow, that flavor is not at all in congruence with that nose. Oddly effervescent. Wow, way to really screw up the flavor. Shame.

Bottle poured to a snifter. Murky, brown/red. Nicely smooth for the ABV. I think the cognac aging moderated the bourbon kick. Pleasant blend of toffee, caramel, brown sugar with oak prominent. Excellent overall. I’ll be looking for this again.

Bottle. Deep amber with small head. Big barleywine, but not as boozy as I expected. I did let our age for about a year after purchase. Toffee and dark fruit. Light oak. Warming.

Odd Side Ales Colossal Oversight This is a barrel-aged barleywine from Michigan I got from a fellow beer lover in Kansai. At 12% it’s not a beer to be trifled with but it pours a beautiful deep red color with a wispy beige head. The aroma is sweet syrupy caramel with nourbon and cognac plus just hints of oak and piney hops. Full bodied with a raspy carbonation and surprisingly dry finish. The taste is malty caramel, charred oak, bourbon, sweet syrup, bitter pine, fresh green mint and maybe a touch of cognac in the finish. Smooth drinking, this is quite a good big warming BA barleywine for a cold winter night.

12 ounce bottle from flandersned. Thanks! The beer is a murky brown with a beige head of foam. The aroma has notes of wood, chocolate, raisins, some tobacco as well. Sweet and boozy taste. I get a lot of sherry like notes. Not sure of the age on this, but it tastes as though it has some to it. Big body, moderate carbonation.

12 oz bottle, apparently bottled January 25 or 26, 2016. Pours copper with many fine to small particles, off-white head. Aroma is oxidized, sticky molasses, caramelly malt, plum, oaky. Flavor is molasses, somewhat oxidized caramel malt, plum and raisin, kind of an oaky edge. Pretty tasty overall.
