Deep amber coloured body with a nice, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of sugars, deep pitted fruits, a large malt contingent and a touch of spice and grain. Medium-bodied; Assertive malty flavours with a very strong spice flavour with canella, squash, coriander seed and even some curacao noticeable, tucked with a lot of alcohol and pungent deep sugars from pit fruits. Aftertaste is a bit more smooth with a little light sweetness, grain and pit fruits noticeable without any perceived bitterness. Overall, a pretty good beer that shows a lot of sweetness, some bitterness,a bit of earth and a relatively complex finish, especially if this stays as an ’Amber Ale’, which I don’t believe it is, but still, a decent offering. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 10-December-2016 for US$1,99 sampled about a month later on 14-January-2017 at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Bottle: The aroma consists of dark fruits, grape, ginger, clove, and a hint of banana. It pours a dark brown that becomes more of a transparent reddish-orange when held to the light. It has a three finger beige head that fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. There is some sporadic thin lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with dark fruits and light grape. There is a hint of chocolate in the background. The finish has light spice with clove and a touch of ginger. There’s also some mild orange peel. It’s medium bodied with light-moderate carbonation.

Bottle sampled at the FF 2015 tasting at Pauls. Pours a thin golden brown body with thin off white lacing. Nose is old stale malt, sugar and wet dog. Mouthfeel is thin with wet cardboard, grains, malt and light cocoa.

Smells like Christmas, taste like watered down Christmas. Like a Christmas party four weeks before or three weeks after actual Christmas. Lacks the balls of a lot of holiday beers. Might get again.

JaBier (8445) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - DEC 22, 2015
2014 bottle from Rishi’s. Clear reddish copper with a thick beige head. Aroma of malt, cinnamon, roast and esters. Malty flavor with cinnamon, caramel and chocolate accents before a roasty finish.

SpongeRuiner (1114) - Michigan, USA - NOV 20, 2015
Pours a murky brown color with a light rimmed head. A lot of orange zest is the nose with cookie spice. Off putting spice flavor upfront. Not really my thing. A caramely sugar flavor. A little bit of a rusty water flavor. Not much orange. I appreciate the interesting attempt but this one wasn’t for me.

(bottle - 12 oz) Dark brown with almost no head. Odd aroma of orange and spice. Flavor is slightly odd as well. Definitely get the orange peel and some sort of spices, but too many of them to pin down. [9/10/15]

bottle. Deep amber with small head. Medium body with caramel and toffee. A bit overboard on the spicing.

Bottle at Paul’s for Andy and Max’s Fantasy Football winnings tasting. Pours a clear brown with no real head. Sweet malt and a bit of toast on the nose. Malty, papery, old malt. Long malt on the finish, light bitterness.
