Richer than most amber ales, 90 Shilling is smooth & deeply satisfying, with a crisp, clean Colorado taste. The name comes from the old Scottish method of naming a brewery's beer, based on original gravity and resulting tax rating.

Poured from a bottle into pint glass. Pours copper red with an average sized off-white frothy head. Head is fairly long lasting with good lacing. Beer is cloudy with just a bit of small particles. Nice balanced smell with both moderate bready malt smell and moderate grassy/citrusy hoppy smell. Initial taste is light sweet citrus that finishes moderately bitter. Finish is short; medium-bodied with a creamy/syrupy feel.

12floz bottle, BBD 06.14.2017, $1.50 for a single (Ive had before on draft and from the bottle), poured into a pint glass. Translucent amber in color and the head forms continental bodies atop. Caramel creme permeates from the glass that I drinketh. Thy tasteth an adequate ale for a mere mortal, toasted malt and medium in character.

Not a fan of this out of the bottle, my beer strike-outs continue. Pretty good out of a tap though. Dry, dull amber. If this is the flagship then the ship has sailed. This beer is far behind the times, then again I dont know why Im buying a style I dont particularly like. I used to like this but its so 2005. I feel like Im back in high school when Im drinking this. Or 2009, because I could drink then. Such an average beer, I dont know why people buy stuff like this. I want a stout, never enough stouts in bottles for a good price at the liquor store. Odell is a good brewery but I wont get this again.

12 oz. bottle poured to a Czech-pils glass at home showing a clear & bright, slightly rosy amber color, with a persistent layer of off white/light tan suds, and wavy lacing that gradually turned web-like. The nose was toasted, malty, light caramel sweetness, with dried fruit notes. Medium bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste was similar notes, malty creaminess, and earthy, slightly roasted bitterness, with some warmth toward the finish. Clean drinkability, but 90 shilling?

Taste: hint of caramel sweet malt, spiced fruit and grains, some bite in finish, but smooth drinker. Spiced cider and malt nose. Amber, mostly clear, Big foamy head with defined ring lace around the glass. Medium body.

This is a nice shade of orange with a creamy head and lots of lace. This is surprisingly hoppy--not too aromatic but quite pleasantly bitter. Its slightly fruity with some caramel and breakfast cereal malt character. This is pretty full bodied beer, a little sweet but not obnoxiously so and as such is nice and drinkable. This is a solid brew.

Not my normal style but a nice change definitely a Scottish ale not a spectacular appearance but makes up for it with a very nice medium body with a thick texture

Pours a clear amber with a thin off white head. The aroma consists of toffee, toasted malts, and nuts, and it isnt very strong. The taste has some mild bitterness. Its very nutty, and has toffee, biscuit, earthy malts, and a bit of butter. Aftertaste is long and mild, with nuts and biscuit. Medium in body, smooth in texture, and average in carbonation. This wasnt very exciting.

Burnt amber pour into New Glarus, Wisconsin pint glass. I took a chance on this as it is new to our area. Aromas of caramel and a bit earthy. A bit of hoppy spiciness. This one is more malt forward but has good balance. Flavors of chocolate malts and rich caramel. Finishes spicy with and slightly dry. Good sweet flavors without being too sweet or cloying. A well rounded beer. I can see why this is there "flagship" beer. Good Scottish/Amber ale.

Bottle. Deep Amber-Red in colour. Malty; toasty malts, buttery caramel, toffee. Fruity; apple and light citrus. Hoppy; light hops. Sweet malts and slight bitter hops. Dry mildly bitter finish. Easy drinking. (2011-04-23)

I had to revisit this as it was my main go to in college. It was okay, and I can see why I liked it; smooth and fairly rich, but it is not really to my tastes at this time.
