A steady pour into my teku glass produces a one finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a light copper / pale amber color that shows a clear, lighter version of the same when held up to the light. The aroma smells of sweet grassy grain, alcohol, it has an earthy spiciness to it (sort of like coriander), a berry like fruitiness, a concord grape like note, and a sweet caramel like note.
The beer has a bitterness to it up front that mellows a bit as the full / rich beer flows across the palate. The beer has a concentrated malt flavor to it without being overly sweet; quite bread and cracker like with some hay like notes to it as well. The finish has some hot higher alcohol notes to it that doesn’t get too overwhelming, but definitely lingers on the palate with some spicy notes. There is a certain earthy quality to this beer, and this accentuates a full pale grain flavor. There really is a lingering spiciness to this beer, it is quite light, but I can feel a touch of a burn on my lips even.
Interesting, and certainly not bad, but not really my cup of tea. The chile addition was an interesting development considering I wasn’t expecting it coming into this. The beer as a whole just doesn’t seem to complete mesh in an integrated fashion though.
Pours a hazy dark blood orange color with tangerine edges and a 2.5 finger frothy white head that has excellent retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap. Streaks and chunks of soapy lacing left behind.
Complex aroma with earthy and citrus hops, light fruit, pine needle, alcohol, oak barrel and spicy peppers. Toasted oak at first with hop oils and resinous pine notes. Slight chalky pepper presence with light fruit, citrus zest, pepper, damp wood and bready yeast.
Medium bodied with dry oak and sticky hop bitterness that lingers throughout. Earthy and resinous pine needle flavor with citrus fruit, pale malts, biscuit, caramel, dry oak and a subtle boozy barrel character. Slight dryness but sweet alcohol and fruit notes balance things out. Pepper presence lingers in the finish but isn’t noticeable otherwise. Pours a golden in color with white head. Pale malty aroma. Sweet but balanced dry hoppiness. Quite carbonated.

December 15th, 2012 - O’Dell’s footprint is a localized version of Dogfish Head’s gimmicky Pangaea - ingredients chosen for their geography rather than their quality. The sentiment is neat, and I like the idea of cross-border collaboration on beers, but I’d rather see skills rather than materials shared in the making of a good brew. That said, while I absolutely abhorred the Pangaea, this turned out to be a pretty great beer, either by serendipity, or through very careful ingredient screening.The pour produces a large, billowing cloud of foam, which like Duvel’s golden ale recedes along the side, leaving a plateau in the center of the glass, an island above the fray above popping suds. Dole pineapple juice defines those nose, decorated with a squeeze of fresh orange juice, citrusy hop highlights and a little popped corn sweetness. Here and there in the smell are bright dots of mikan, and maybe even the softer floral touch of dandelions. Overall, the flavor is mellower, with a heavy palate, and a slow, unctuous booziness. Lemon, a touch of hops, and light floral touches like dandelion petals and lemon candies counter the oozing booze with some levity, and a hint of pear sneaks in during a soft aftertaste. Delicious, long, and replete with lemon zest and juice, this is beer that really demands the drinker’s attention, but light enough that it can cater to sunnier, hotter days. This is a huge mouthful of 9.5% ABV apricot and mango compote. Feels like a desert beer, for sure. Hops are there but overwhelmed by the broad malt backbone. Overall, a very well-balanced high-gravity beer.

Big bottle purchased at Elevated. Appearance is very nice. Copper and healthy head. In the vein of a double IPA. Taste is a little malty and a hint of bitterness. Good. Doesn't really fit any category. Not carbonated much. Straw in color. Sweet flavor. Some woody smokiness. Would drink again!

Awkwardly sweet and muddled beer with some fruit and caramel and other flavors that I cant place. Finishes fruity and perfumey sweet. Odd and kinda boozy.
