Can from Baggott St wines. Pours black with reddish hue with tan head. 8.1% version. Pine, earth, black berry, hints of leather. Flavour is charcoal earth, sweet blackberry jam with an ashen wood finish. Sweet dark fruit finish. Smooth and cream mouthfeel. A classy black ipa. balloonbuffoon (659) - - DEC 6, 2017
12floz can, BBD: 02.16.2018, $1.75 unit cost. The ABV indicated on the can is 8.1%, and "double" is not part of name. It's just "Mountain Standard Black IPA." Poured into a pint glass, where it appears a dark brown color with a large sugary hop invoking head. drpimento (3797) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 2, 2017
Smells like green stems, mmm...green. Chewy, moderate bitterness, and latent sweetness are this beer's markings. It's like drinking liquid bark, leaves, and brown sugar. It's fair, but it doesn't elevate my opinion of the style
Very good black double IPA. Aroma is Hap's roast dark malt. Had a very long lasting frothy Light tan head and lots of sticky lace. Flavor is like nose, balanced and easy drinking. Great finish and smooth body. AmEricanbrew (7065) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - NOV 19, 2017

Hazy, very dark brown, frothy, beige head. Medium sweet. More sweet, dark malts, toasted, barre aged flavours, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Outstanding CDA, rich and well-balanced. Bottle shared at L41 tasting - thanks to Leighton!
Bottle @Craigs (The Budget week tasting, rating backlog). Pours brown, almost black tan head. Nose is chocolate, slight coffee. Taste is raisin, fruit cake, roasted malts, very nice. Beerandhockey8 (434) - Three Forks, Montana, USA - JUN 28, 2017

Can from McHughs. Ruby brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of earthy malt. Flavour is roasted hop, chocolate, dry malt, bitter fruit, creamy roast finish. KevinReddirt (226) - Midland, Texas, USA - MAY 3, 2017
Given to me to sample by a very good beer friend from his cellar. It came in a 12 oz. bottle with some nifty artwork on the label. The pour yields a stout-like dark, almost jet black, body along with a foamy beige top that leaves a good accounting of the sips I take. The nose is unexpected for an IPA, earthy, malty and some spice. A drink gives an interesting combination of malt and resin, biscuit and a vanilla-chocolate finish. A touch of bitterness lingers. Quite involved, very appealing. A great Black IPA, better than most Imperial IPAs. A great day indeed. Oh, and the bottle says 10.6% abv. Strong in many ways. Bottle. Blackish-dark brown with a medium beige head that slowly recedes to a fine film. The aroma packs a wallop and I can smell this one from across my desk--no real need to set this under my nose to get a whiff. The aroma features pine, oak barrel, cocoa and toffee. The taste echoes the notes detected in the aroma. The palate is full and the carbonation is soft. Finished long and dry. Overall: Good stuff.
