COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As the Colorado hop growers prove they can produce world class hops, we as a Colorado craft brewer want to showcase what our state can offer, not only with the ingredients used in crafting them. Mountain Standard Double Black IPA showcases the homegrown hops our brewers helped pick from farms along Colorado’s western slope. MST pours committingly dark with a light brown head and a slightly roasted hoppy nose. An ephemeral bitterness, the result of combining roasted malts with an assertive American hop profile, contributes to MST’s act of balance and harmony within nature or your glass. As the season’s darkness sets in why shouldn’t your beer become darker as well?

Opaque dark brown beer. Amazing head! A quick swirl left a perfect spiral galaxy shape in the pale tan head! Typical Odell deftness and balance. Sotfish and semi dry palate. Fresh creamy dark malt well balanced with piney smooth hops. Just a trace of hop fruit. Smooth finish. Very well joined up.

On tap at Odell on 12/22. Pours a deep brown color with off-white head. Roasty, piney, grassy, slight cocoa flavors. One of the better black IPAs in my book.

On draft at the brewery. Pours a murky dark golden-brown with off-white lacing. Aroma of pine hops and dark malt. Taste starts with a hoppy bitter bite then gets kind of watery, with some pine and sugar. Lingering light bitter pine notes. Eh, there’s not much going on here.

Pours a dark ruby red with a thin khaki head. Aromas of floral hops, some roast and oddly enough, coffee. Taste is pretty standard for a black ipa, but the thin mouthfeel really detracts from this one. Meh.

I’ve had this both on tap and from the bottle. I actually prefer the bottle version of this one.

(Rating #4396)

Beers like this help me turn the corner with this style. The earthy, bitter, danky hops work with the rasted malt.

Citrus, pine, and floral hop aroma is very prominent. Interesting take on black IPAs and making it an imperial black IPA. Well balanced and now one of my favorite beers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Almost as good as Stone's More Brown Than Black. Hoppy yet malty; malty yet hoppy. Great flavor with just a nice tinge of bitterness. Home run! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draft at Odell. Pours a medium brown with an off-white head. Nose is roasted malts, coffee, piney hops, and a bit of chocolate. Flavor is roasted malts with aggressive hops: pine pushes through the efforts of the malts to conceal it. Light citrus notes also intersperse themselves. Interesting black IPA overall.
