Lots of dark fruit and a sort of honied sweetness at the end of the taste. Surprising amount of hop character, mostly pine. alexsdad06 (10387) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - DEC 29, 2012
750 ml bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown color with a small off white head. The aroma has sweet malts, toffee, ripe fruits, pine and some faded hops. A hint of cork is also present. The flavor has sweet caramel, toffee, ripe fruits, pine and faded hops. I probably buried this for a bit too long, but it is still pretty good. BigMoBeerGuy (8) - - OCT 16, 2012 does not count
Drank as a gift from my brother and what a treat it is. To say this is a complex brew to me is an understatement. True, the brew is 3 years young but all of its malty, alcohol-tinged beauty has been well-preserved. This lively libation pours a lovely medium-dark brown and can overwhelm your taste and nose buds if given the chance. I say, take that chance because this liquid gold in a bottle won’t be around for long. A bit heavy, but worth it. Certainly malty, and worth it. Get a bottle if you can, because...it’s worth it. Bottle shared at Natifest 12. Poured clear brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate to heavy complex toasted malt, hop and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy balanced bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid complex beer. JaBier (7972) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - JUL 30, 2012

Sample at Kurt’s 49th birthday party. Slightly hazy deep amber pour with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma is piney hops and citrus. Medium body with flavors of resiny hops, grapefruit and malt. The finish is hoppy with a fruity aftertaste. Pretty good all around. jtclockwork (16581) - , New Jersey, USA - FEB 21, 2012
Bottle. Pours dark red/almost brown with tan head. Nose/taste of pine, molasses, toffee, caramel, old hops and resin. Medium body. Ibrew2or3 (8614) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JAN 15, 2012
Expensive ($17) caged and corked 750mL bottle pours mahogany with tan head. The modest aroma offers up some dark roasted maltiness, a bit spicy anise and then faint sweet molasses notes around the edges. The taste is on the spicy side as well with anise and sort of black licorice mixing with dark roasted malts creating a possibly spicy cedar or oak like sensation. Amid the roasted malts and the spiciness are softer notes of sweet malts and molasses. This is good stuff with out a hint of an issue with its advanced age. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 10, 2011
bottle... dark brown with a nice tan head... smells nice, a hoppy barley wine with a bit of malt, tastes basically the same, an easy to drink hoppy barley wine arminjewell (9635) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JUL 21, 2011
Bottle thanks to aaron, pours opaque reddish brown with eggshell head, aroma has notes of some aged pine, grass, some roast, caramel, touch of earth and spice. Taste is past its prime for sure, has muted notes of grass and roast, some slight toast, biscuit, with a fairly bitter finish.
