On tap at Odells Tasting room poured a clear dark brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of oak, vanilla, roasted malt, light coffee, light milk chocolate and light fuittiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Tasted on tap at the brewery in Fort Collins. Pretty much a coal black appearance. Strong aroma from the oak and high alcohol content that’s pretty enjoyable. Smooth, thin body with a deep oak infused flavor. Despite the apparent heftiness of the base beer, the barrel (and original beer it contained) take over this beer quite a bit - quite a bit of vanilla and oak, a whiskey-ish quality - a startling amount of acidity - surprisingly dry, with a fair amount of toasty, dry chocolate on the tail end - a surprising, bright, almost citric fruitiness throughout that actually works pretty well - that acidity, though - a mixed bag.
