This time of year in the Rockies, one day can span all four seasons. Morning snow gives way to afternoon sun, sending fresh snowmelt into our rivers and into our mash tun. With a complex malt backbone dry hopped for notes of citrus and pine, its almost as surprising as the season itself.

Tap at Nighthawks with blonderedhead. Pint glass. Amber/copper color with some lacing and head of a tannish variety. Nose has some hops with pine and light citrus. Taste is pretty mild with a strong malt presence working well underneath a hoppy surface. Citrus and some resin. Kind of thins out towards the end with aftertaste clinging to hop bitterness. Its nothing special but drinkable.

Beautiful deep copper, tan head, good lace. Amazing looking beer! Soft aroma - biscuity sweet malt, complex piney hops. Taste is very well balanced with bready malts and slightly resinous hops. Medium sweet finish with pretty full mouthful. Very good beer!

Pouring an amber-red into the glass, the beer is less than aromatic, but capped with a thick, creamy tan head. The Runoff Red is as clear as a gemstone, and if I could find one this color, Id wear it. The aroma is not reaching out to me, so I lean to the glass. Pine fragrant hops aloft a malty base are now apparent in the aroma, but the first taste and a little warmth on the glass pulls all of it together. - A fruity flavor culminates within those malts, the temperature rising and the aroma beginning to burst with big, juicy grapefruit. The carbonation is just right to carry the bitter edginess of the brew across my tongue, and at the same time, support the flavor that is now coming like a flood. A nice lacing on the glass makes for a nice visual, but that creamy head is tantalizing on my lip as I drink. - This is quite lovely, a huge aroma when all is said and done, very visually pleasing and definitely drinkable. The finish is mild, not too punchy and Im liking the flavor quite a lot. Nothing is making me run right out to shout about it, but this is definitely something Id recommend to anyone that enjoys a nice Red IPA.

Aroma of sweet malt, stone fruit, a light hint of cherry, slight citrus. Appearance is a brilliant clear red copper color. Similar to aroma, tastes of slight caramel malt, and subtle cherry and citrus. Medium body with moderate carbonation. This is a beautiful beer!

In the era of Arrogant Bastard and other red ales featuring aggressive Northwestern American hops, Runoff Red is a bit surprising. Appearance is what youd expect with a ruby-amber shade and creamy suds. Aroma is balanced equally between toasted malt and piney hops. At the start, there are hop notes of berry and orange. The balance then reverses mid-palate and caramelly malt takes over with hints of chocolate. Its certainly a change of pace from the other American Strong Ales/Red IPAs... whatever the hell you want to call them. Runoff Red an approachable and beautifully balanced ale to mark the ending stages of winter.
