COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Farmers are patient and understand it takes time for some things to mature. We followed their lead with our Whiskey Barrel Aged Lugene, named after our favorite farmer who has been hauling our spent grain to his dairy cows for years. We took a batch of our Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout, moved it into some Woody Creek Rye Whiskey barrels for six months. The result is a beer that is dynamic and complex, with aromas of roasted malt, dark chocolate and toffee, and a smooth but full-bodied mouthfeel with subtle flavors of rye spice and vanilla.

FoBAB 2017. Opaque black, thin tan. Nose chocolate, barrel, light spice. Taste milk chocolate, lactose, light spice. Nose larger than flavor

On Tap dark brown nearly black. Thin wispy tan head leaving spotty web like trasces down the sides of the glass. Light milk chocolate aromas, a touch of the whiskey but very slight. Very soft and smooth palate, again, like chocolate milk. Just a hint of the whiskey, here also. In the trailer, it comes though a bit more. Very nice.

12 oz single bottle from Mr. B's Wine & Spirits. Black appearance with a small, lingering, light brown head. Aroma of chocolate malt, roasted grain, rye whiskey, earth, mild oak and light vanilla. Similar flavor, rich, dark, malty and mildly sweet with light bitterness. Medium to full body with a slight dry feel and a lingering rye finish. Pretty tasty overall, but the price point is a bit high.

I'm generally put off by the weird chewy, woody flavors that result from many barrel-aged milk stouts, but Whiskey Barrel Aged Lugene is damn nice. It preserves the original creamy character and bittersweet chocolate flavors. There's a nice note of boozy, oaky vanilla and whiskey-like malty syrup warmth. Rather than being a stew of competing elements, this a brew that balances bitter/sweet/spicy and makes it look easy.

12-oz bottle from binnys Lincoln Park. richer maltier nose (than Prairie No Chill), good webbier multi-bubbled more persistent head, lattice of lace, booze not bourbon, sugar more than dark fruit sweetness, milk chocolate in background, creamier smoother, far superior but of course unfair to compare coffee apples to ba apples.

Intense chocolate, cacao, caramel, chocolate milkshake. Hazy, very dark brown, small, creamy, beige head. Heavy sweet. More dark chocolate, cacao, dark pralines, lactose, caramel, dark molasses, soft carbonation, full bodied. Beautiful. Keg at GABF17, Denver.

Draft. Pretty close to black color, tan head with webby lacing. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, whiskey. Taste is sweet, boozy milk chocolate. Tasty.

Bottle, 2017 vintage. Rich chocolate malt aroma with notes of lactose, vanilla, roasted malt, whiskey and a bit of rye. Pours dark brown with a thin mocha brown head that has some retention and lacing. Starts with chocolate and roasted malt flavors with lactose sugar sweetness as well as a rich, full body and silky smooth mouthfeel. Finishes super smooth with vanilla and whiskey flavors as well as just a hint of rye spiciness at the very end. Decadent stout just right for dessert or anytime really.

Taster at the brewery. Dark reddish brown appearance with a brown head. Aroma is full of milk chocolate, whiskey, vanilla, and coconut. Soft mouthfeel. Fairly high boost. Thin. Ok but I'm not a huge fan.
