I had this when it was about 1 year old and just now at near 3 years. I can say it has continued to blend and wood flavors became more pronounced. The carbonation held up. The aromas were strong malt, almond and a little sour. Nice copper color with one finger of white head. I will say this is the most unique lager I’ve ever had. Not a strong hops presence. Good sipping beer. Alcohol was present but not over done.

Bomber. Appearance: 3 fingers white head, soapy, great lacing, head remains as a nice film, deep brown with light red color, light cloudy. Aroma: oak, fruit, prune and grape, light smokiness, nutty, lightest hints of vanilla. Palate: full body, oily, soft carbonation, alcohol warming. Taste: light fruit sweetness off the bat, great malty sweetness after, lasting sweetness. Great great great beer. I must get a hold of more. Tasted in summer 2012 with the Nashville crew. Pours hazy orange with an average white head that leaves average lace. The nose is earthy yeast with caramel, tons of oak, and a hint of old hops. The flavor is sweet with some cereal, the same intense oak, and light bitterness. The body is medium with lighter than average carbonation and a long caramel, earthy, and maple finish.
So, this is a DOUBLE Marzen style oak aged lager. Bottled May 2010.
A: Pours an orange on red lager with a single finger of caramel head which falls over a couple minutes to a solid sheet of the same. Excellent clarity. Spotty on cobweb lacing.
S: As the title suggests, wood is king here. Oak, fired oak, sour oak, fresh oak. The beer has multiple layers of the tree playing with an herb I can’t quite place, but it reminds me of Turkish food - it’s very strong. Maybe tee-tree oil.
T: Man, I wish I could place this flavor, because it dominates the palate. Maybe it’s just oak, but it has a distinct pine flavor. I can say that As the beer warms, there are some nice malt flavors of caramel and vanilla. Again, this is woody.
M: Medium to heavy for the style, moderate carb. Dry finish is spot on and aromatic.
O: Really interesting beer. I would definitely drink again. I don’t know I would seek it out, but that’s more or less because it is so strong on a flavor profile which is obscure if not unique to this beer. I think it is unfortunate that the beer has to be categorized under the marzen style, given that the beer is a Double/Imperial Marzen. Kudos to Odell heading a different direction with beer, and I’m glad I got to try this one.

Over 3 year bottle, pours a burnt orange that fades to dark golden with cream colored fizz. Nice German lager aroma with a filling oak with some alcohol sweetness. Nice flavor of raisins and grain with a large dry oak flavor and a little vanilla. The look: Cloudy copper body topped by a small beige head.
In long: Nose is very oaky over a sweet caramelized maltiness and some alcohol fumes. Taste is very caramelized upfront, a whole lot of caramelized cereals, very light fruity notes (red fruits), a lot of wood (virgin oak sensation), alcohol is very apparent but without to much bite. High sweetness sensation and quite boozy. Heavily carbonated, almost to soda-pop level, it makes this monster beer easier to drink but also kills any subtleties the may have. Nothing offensive here but very straightforward, lacks complexity. With such a monster barrel aged beer I couldn’t tell the beer is a lager. Just another sipper, not bad, but very simple, very brutal and low drinkability. I was very disappointed by this beer, and imho it really sucks that I have to put-up with all sorts of disappointments like this only to eventually die at the end, living is stupid.
Sampled 3/1/2013. Big leathery oak. This beer has aged well. Marzen under the oak is very nice. Oxidation playing very nice here. What a treat.
