Inukshuks were originally created as directional markers and used as landmarks for travelers on the Arctic Tundra. These stone sculptures can now be found all over North America and today they have become a symbol for hope, friendship and hospitality. We can’t think of a better icon for our North American IPA. O’Dempsey’s Inukshuk IPA combines a bitter hop bite and citrus nose with just enough of a malt backbone to achieve a balancing act for your senses. Enjoy.

Bottle pour of orange gold brown with a med cream lacy head. Aroma of big honey and caramel malt only a hit of herbal like hops. Taste of same big sweet roasted malt with a pine like bitter that sneaks up at the end. Med body with a good carbonation that plays on the tongue with a med lingering bitter. Easy sipping beer that is well balanced but not really an IPA, the hops are more herbal than citrusy and the malt is very predominate. Would drink again but maybe it should be renamed as it's not what I expected being listed as an IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear light amber coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of pale malt, apricots, caramel and some english and german hops - not much alpha acids in this one. Light-bodied; Mild malty flavour with a little hop flavour showing a touch of perfume and flowers. Aftertaste is mild with a bit of caramel, toffee and a little nutty taste - not so great. Overall, a pretty poor beer with not much hop flavour and no complexity - pretty bland and not really worth trying, especially as an IPA. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-August-2013 for US$2.49 sampled at home in Washington a few hours before running the Marine Corps Marathon on 26-October-2013.

Pours a fairly clear golden to orange with a thinner cream colored head. A vigorous swirl produces a little less than a finger worth of head, and the lacing is spotty. Nose is quite subdued with notes of caramel and toast with herbal hop notes, some faint citrus hops and some honey. Pretty sweet flavor-wise, with a fair bitterness that comes around to balance. Lighter side of medium bodied, fairly active yet somewhat dull on the palate, with a lingering drying herbal honey tea finish. I’m pretty sure I have a fairly fresh example, and for me I don’t think they should call this an IPA. An ESB perhaps, or standard APA, but it definitely does not perform like an IPA aromatically or on the palate. Not a bad brew, but nothing makes it stand out.

Clear orange color, small head. Citrus nose with some toasty notes as well. Subtle bitterness for an IPA.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2013 Bottle. Clear orange pour with a small head. Might be a bit aged - getting a touch of cardboard out of this. Caramel and citrus hops in here. Just okay.

12 ounce bottle. Bright amber orange color. Medium-sized beige head. Fragrant toasted malt aroma has a touch of caramel and spicy undertones. Subtle sweet toasted malt flavor is nicely balanced with light grapefruit-like hops. Good flavor and balance. Rather tame, but good.

Bottle. Deep gold blonde colored body with a slightly off white head. The nose has some rich toast, grapefruit and toast. There is a pleasant floral quality from the relatively restrained hops. This is fairly bitter in the mouth at first taste, but it becomes more fruity and doughy as more gets drank. There is some hint of wood and hay in the finish. A decent middle of the road IPA.
