COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally brewed for Russian Royalty in the early 18th century, this style was born of necessity. The porter which was originally ordered spoiled en route. In order for the beer to survive the trip from England to the courts of Russia, the hops and alcohol were dramatically increased. O’Dempsey’s Your Black Heart Russian Imperial Stout combines a silky mouth feel with a balance between sweet malts and bitter hops that pairs well with strong cheeses, dark chocolates and fine cigars. Truly a luxury befitting even your Royal Highnesss. Enjoy.

Oh yeah. That’s the stuff. This is nice and thick with a good level of bitterness to it. Good coffee notes to it and will put some hair on your chest. I like it.

Bottle from Ale Yeah! In Decatur, GA. Thick, black color with dark beige thick head. Taste and smell are thick black coffee. Slightly bitter and acidic.

Strong, smoky aroma has firm tones of coffee and semi-sweet chocolate with hints of licorice and anchovies. It pours a rich, opaque coffee brown just a hair above black with a thick, fairly persistent tan head. Flavor has notes of roast coffee, semi-sweet chocolate and molasses with hints of licorice, anchovy and hops and just a touch of sweetness. Full-bodied texture is fizzy and lively, quite satisfying. Definitely fit for royalty!

A very good rich stout. Yet very smooth with a velvety chocolate taste. Pretty sweet with a lack of alcohol in the flavor and aroma.

Very dark appearance. Slight head after pour. Great aroma. Tastes like a dark chocolate stout with a smooth finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a bottle into a stout glass. Aromas of sweet raisins, milk chocolate, and fresh malted grain, straight from the bag. Dark black with a tan head. I’m really shocked at how much I like the taste of this beer, based on previous experiences with O’Dempsey’s. Full chocolate and tobacco flavor up front, with a firm hop finish that lingers and leaves a great taste. I love how rich and smooth this beer is up front, and how sharp and lingering it is on the back end. This is the epitome of "begging for another sip". Really stunned by how much I like this rock solid imperial stout.

Bottle says 9%, from trade, black beer, big walnut colored head. Aroma plums, figs, chocolate, metal, cookies. Taste is chocolate, coffee, kahlua (but in a good way, not too sweet), plum, molasses, hint of cherries. Palate is smooth and rich but not syrupy, carbonation subdued. Finish is roasty dry. This hits all my favorite things about impy stouts. If there’s a flaw, it’s the hops/citrus rind on the finish, just a touch too strong, to my taste, for balance, but this comes very close!

Nearly black color, beige head. Aroma is loaded with coffee, chocolate, roast, prunes. Flavor is nice and chocolatey with espresso, roast and some raisiny notes. Pretty damn good!
