3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle.Pour was a deep dark black with an average sized (1-2 finger) medium brown creamy head and had fair lacing.
The aroma was of burnt bread malts, a mild resin hop and a leathery yeast with notes of bitter-sweet chocolate, molasses, roasted coffee and had a pronounced alcohol presence.
Taste was malty sweet and very lightly bitter with a mild notes of chocolate and molasses at first with a nice bitter strong coffee flavor, a hint of smoke and a strong alcohol finish. The flavor hung around for a long duration with the taste of coffee and alcohol left to settle on the taste buds.
Mouthfeel was very full in body and dry yet creamy in texture with a soft carbonation.
Overall a nice and strong flavored Imperial Stout with the coffee and chocolate flavors blending very well with the high alcohol finish.
Bottle says 9%, from trade, black beer, big walnut colored head. Aroma plums, figs, chocolate, metal, cookies. Taste is chocolate, coffee, kahlua (but in a good way, not too sweet), plum, molasses, hint of cherries. Palate is smooth and rich but not syrupy, carbonation subdued. Finish is roasty dry. This hits all my favorite things about impy stouts. If there’s a flaw, it’s the hops/citrus rind on the finish, just a touch too strong, to my taste, for balance, but this comes very close! Dark brown body with a dark beige cap. Licorice, molasses, chocolate, bitter cocoa. Quit tasty! A beautiful merging of an Irish dry stout with a heavier and richer Russian imperial stout. jredmond (8288) - New York, New York, USA - JAN 9, 2016
2013 bottle shared with Scarlett on Christmas day 2015. Pours a deep brown black body with thin tan lacing. Nose is roast and ash. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with notes of roast, chocolate and sugar. tnkw01 (1753) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 16, 2015
Bottle. Black in color. When held up to the light hints of brown. Small tan head. Aroma was strong coffee, that really over powered anything else. Taste was like a really smooth Black IPA. Taste was coffee, black chocolate, hints of burnt toast and hoppiness. Slight sweet upfront with a bitter finish. geologyguy (1604) - Columbia, South Carolina, USA - OCT 6, 2015
Deep dark smell...fruity like apricot and liquorice, black appearance, taste is smooth a first then you’re hit with a blast of coffee and liquorice ..gets more bitter but then smoothes out into a roasted coffee taste that lingers...all in one sip! Depth with the coffee and liquorice flavor mixed...very strong flavor that can be a touch too much at times...alcohol hits you quick too

Bottle. Jet black. Cold it is a bit soy saucy. Warm, it really opens up. Big chocolate. Similar flavor but less intense than Expedition stout. Quite good. Bebum (993) - Massachusetts, USA - JUL 25, 2015
Deep brown, tall and café-au-lait color and fine mousse.
Full body, flavorful, lively and smooth but not silky mouthfeel, long palate.
Roast flavors predominate but also coffee, chocolate, toffee, smoke and tar.
Very good imperial stout, not the best to my taste.

Black as night. Smooth, hoppy, very malty goodness..Nutty, chocolaty stout. ordybill (1759) - Douglasville, Georgia, USA - JUN 23, 2015
Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a tulip glass.
Aroma- Big roasted coffee bean aroma
Appearance- Looks like used motor oil, has a small brown head
Taste- Not good to me, acidic with no back end flavor, sort of empty after the initial tasting (this occurred on each sip)
Palate- A full bodied beer with mild carbonation, has a dry bitter finish.
Overall- I did not care for this beer at all. RIS’s are not my favorite style of beer but I do enjoy several; this ain’t one of them. chucklemation (1687) - Royal Oak, Michigan, USA - APR 13, 2015
Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is lots of chocolate and some roast. Flavor is some chocolate and roast, with a bitter finish that is almost sour. A bit thin, a bit odd, and just ok.
