5 ounce sample at the Odonata Grain & Grape Dinner during Sacramento Beer Week. Complex aroma with hints of sweet, caramelly, cherry notes. Roasty with some chocolate accents are also present. Some tartness is also detected in the nose. Very quaffable! Moderately hazy amber-cola colored body with a light tan head. Fantastic lacing and legging. Rich, sweet, caramelly and chocolate maltiness to start. Lightly astringent with cherry notes in the middle. Finishes smooth, caramelly, and with a subtle sweetness. Sublime stuff. This is right down my alley... daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - DEC 19, 2009

huge thanks to bhensonb for sending this my way while it was still obtainable. this thing was absolutely stunning. never in the creation of beer has there been one so amazingly good. the pour was brownish in color with an off white head that laced the glass. aroma was about as complex as i have ever sniffed. so much going on that i could only pick out cherry, caramel, oak, some spice, and cinnamon. flavor was equally as impressive with cherry, oak, red wine likeness, and some spice. body was creamy with low carbonation. this beer was just liquid awesome. cloudskipper (17) - Kaneohe, Hawaii, USA - DEC 1, 2009

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2016 Bottle shared with the Chicago crew (these guys are all insanely generous), thanks to Kan! Poured a hazy brown with a small light brown head. Aroma had a tart cherry note as well as some caramel, toffee and a bit of some spice. Flavor began sweet with caramel, sweet bread and toffee, but gets a bit darker with some dark cherry at the finish. Cannile (12) - California, USA - OCT 5, 2009
UPDATED: NOV 2, 2009 750ml bottle from City Beer Store in San Francisco. Poured into North Coast snifter. Pours a murky deep red, strong long-lasting tan head, excellent lacing. Aroma is mildly tart up front of sour cherries and dark fruit, vanilla, caramel, a hint of toffee, and rich with oak. A beautiful medley of so many different smells coming together and working so beautifully with each other. Body is medium-heavy. Taste is mildly tart and fruity at first, dark Belgian sugars in the mix, oak, caramel, vanilla, toffee (everything very similar to its aroma), a hint of light citrusy grapes pulls through near the finish. Definitely a rebuy. And as a matter of fact, one of the best beers I’ve had in a while. I’ll guarantee you ... once word gets out that this beer exists ... people are going to go nuts and the supply will not meet the demand. Cheers!! fidel (1302) - Livermore, California, USA - NOV 26, 2009
Poured beautiful dark reddish brown, brown sugar, vanilla, caramel, wood, little cherry, little malty, little dry peach finish. Pailhead (6539) - Rochester Hills, Michigan, USA - NOV 27, 2009

Bottle: The aroma consists of consists of cherries, caramel, chocolate, wine, and oak. It pours a dark reddish-brown with a quarter inch off-white head with good retention. The flavor starts with sweet cherry, chocolate, caramel, and raisin. The finish consists of tart cherries, wine, oak, and a hint of alcohol. Medium bodied with mild carbonation and a soft almost creamy mouthfeel.
Thanks to Joey Schlitz for picking this up for me. Bottle opens with an encouraging pop, and pours reddish caramel with a tan head. Smells like sweet caramel and cherries. Taste follows with sweet caramel, toffee, and tart cherries. Fairly thick body with lots of carbonation. Fantastic brew.
