Since I just ripped on Chocolate Cherry Stout, I also will put in my assessment of this brew from long ago. It was just bitter and skunky to me, not worth it at all. After these two sad sad beer purchases I pretty much stayed away from OFallon altogether.

Rated on 8-11-2016 at The Hoppy Gnome. The appearance of this draft beer is a very small beige head that is fully lasting, hazy amber body, no carbonation observed, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is malt, sweet and a hint of rye. The flavor is lightly bitter, caramel malt, sweet, and a hint of rye. The mouthfeel is soft carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. Bottle pour from the Craft Beer Cellar, Clayton. Aroma is mild toasted malt, nuts, fruit. Appearance is beautifully clear, dark brown (like root beer) with nice sparkle, two finger-width pillowy beige head with nice retention and decent lacing. Taste is crackers with nuts, rye spiciness, light fruit, noble hops. Palate is light bodied with thin texture, average carbonation and dry, lightly bitter finish. Hazy copper colored liquid with a moderate, small bubbled, stable taupe colored head. Herbal, caramel rye aromas. Not much difference from a standard amber. Dry and earthy. A touch of malt sweetness kicks in at points, but the balance is off. A touch of fruit noted as well, with a bit of raspberry in the finish. Linger has some dry malt and herbs. Balance is off for me. Parts are ok and others have me guessing. I’m not even craving a brownie.

I had it on tap. It pours reddish with an off-white head and lacing. The aroma was malty and bready. The taste is kinda underwhelming with bread, herbal, grass, and caramel malt notes. Poured from bottle a hazy deep copper/ amber with slightly off white head that receded to sides of glass quickly. Aroma was malt heavy, hay, Fresh cut hardwood, and a tinge of citrus on the nose. Taste similar but has a Brit brown nutty flavor and a citrus candy like zing on the tongue in the finish. Quite a bit going on here, reminded me of an ESB with Orangina. Aroma however is pretty robust. Lots of caramel and toffee. Maybe some earthy aroma. It’s also a little bready, and roasted nuts.
Taste is also pretty robust, There’s a lot going on here. Sure, there’s something going on with the malts, I’m guessing it’s the rye. The earthy and nutty that I smelled in the aroma, must be the hemp. It’s a little odd, it’s a little different. I might even say it’s a little weird. But it’s not bad. It’s also a little spicy, white pepper maybe?
Mouthfeel is a little heavy. I’m guessing it’s a medium bodied beer. It’s a little spicy, not bitter really, but spicy. It’s complex on the palate, but it works well, it’s fun to try to decipher. It’s odd, and it’s interesting. But it works. The final finish on it is earthy, maybe even piney.
Overall, I am a little surprised by this. It’s a little better than I expected. Except for the pour, it really does well. It’s complex, some reviews say that it’s too much for a beer, but I think it does well.
On tap at ofallon brewery. Aroma of toasted seeds and a slight amount of rye and hops. Just a little spicy. Very nice looking dark amber color with a small fluffy white head. Taste is very hoppy up front with a smoky toasted character to it. The smoke is not overdone; this is still refreshing. Pretty good but I think I liked it better out of the bottle.
