Bottle at home in Salisbury, shared with family. Pours pale yellow with a small, white head. Crispy crackers in the nose, some light lemon. Light sweet flavor, mild pale malts, white sugar, mild bread, faint citrus and straw bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Feels good. Lightly drying finish, some faint leafy bitterness, hay, straw. Pretty bland overall but not offensive.

Bottle. Pours a lightly hazed gold with a thin white head. Soft crisp grain, light hop presence, crackers and grain. Medium bodied, sweet and grainy, light touches of a very faint lemon citrus note. Crisp and clean, a touch sweet, and a little bit empty, but as it’s currently 95F inside, I’m quite happy with a bomber of this today.

(Rating #3686)

Draught pint at the brewpub on 9/3/07
Small, quickly fizzling white head tops a clear golden-apricot colored body.
Smells of a very strong mineral dominance. Not flawed, but it just seems like the water isn’t well-suited to this light of a beer. Very little malt sweetness, somewhat watery (though nothing unusual for the style) and just full of a strong, somewhat bland mineral flavor and aroma. The water works incredibly well with dark malts, as I found their dry stout and imperial stout exceptional. Add the lack of hop character in this one and it seems very lackluster and not overly fresh or crisp tasting/smelling. Not flawed though (no diacetyl, acetyldehyde, phenols, etc...), just a bit off-putting to me on account of the water. Low aroma and flavor strength, very light body, medium amounts of carbonation with a loose texture.

Location: Draft at the Brew Pub, 10/6/09

Overall Impression: Just had a few sips of this one, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. It was pretty boring.

22oz bottle in a shaker. Pours light golden with a white head. Aroma of pale and light toasted malts plus floral hops. Flavor a little light on everything. Average to light texture. A decent beer for the style, but not the best overall.

On tap at the brewpub. Clear bright golden color with a small white head and great lacing. Standard aroma, helles-like but with less honey to it, bready. The flavor is pleasant, with grain, pilsner malt, and bread.  Not big on the hops, but enjoyable. Very crisp and clean with a light and lively mouthfeel. Good for the style.

auerbrau (3206) - Ithaca, New York, USA - FEB 3, 2010
On tap at Mew’s - Wakefield, RI. Pours a crisp golden sheen of clean and clear pale gold with a minimal froth of white. Aroma a minimal swipe of grass, white bread, and salt. Flavors are gentle and ultra-clean. Two-row malt and a bit of alcohol. Easily one of the cleanest Golden Ales I’ve ever had, which is pleasing and makes it very drinkable. Finishes with nice, slightly spicy and straightforward flavorful hop character in the smack. I could work on a few of these.
