This American Style Hefeweizen (pronounced He-fe-vite-zin) is unfiltered and naturally cloudy from the generous use of imported wheat malt. It has a refreshing, bready flavor and a distinct creamy, taste and texture. This lightly hopped beer is very enjoyable and easy to drink with a great wheat after taste.

Pours cloudy dirty gold with a moderate white pillow. Aroma is light banana and clove. Taste is again light on the specifics and overall fairly underwhelming.

Draft at Oggi’s Santee. Hazy yellow. Aromas and flavors of wheat twang. About what I expected from an American wheat. Only the Germans do this right.

Draught at Oggi’s in Vista, California. Hazy golden beer with a small offwhite head. Malty caramel aroma, bready, fruity notes. Malty bready flavor, gun powder notes. Far from being a hefe.

27 May 2015, tap at Oggis. Light yellow and faintly hazy. Nose is floral and lemon citrus. Med body and mildly fizzy. Slightly tangy, mildly yeasty, some lemon, slightly yeasty. Ok.

Sampler at Oggi’s in Garden Grove. Straw colored watery beer, bland even for a hefeweisen. Not a strong point of Oggi’s lineup.

From Notes: On tap Hazy yellow with almost head and no lacing. Smell banana and cloves. Slight bitterness. No real hefe taste.

On tap at the brewpub. It poured a dark yellow color with a white head. The aroma was of wheat with hints of fruit and malts. The taste was of fruit and wheat with mild spices.

Tap. Pours cloudy pale golden, tiny white head, some lacing. Aroma is very light and non descript. Flavor is light sweet, wheat, lemon, not much going on here. Light body, bit of metal. Double meh.

On draft at brewpub
A passable hefeweizen gets slightly higher marks than it possibly deserves for being one of the better draft handles. A run of the mill beer is more American than German. If I were desperate for a wheat fix this would fit the bill. Ultimately though I think it misses the mark.

Aroma / Appearance - A golden lemon base looks the part of a hefeweizen with a soft texture. Wheat, lemon butter, toast, and other lightweight flavors float in the air.

Flavor / Palate - Honey, almonds, and wheat warm the tongue for a second. A brief transition sweeps to a wheaty finish. The soft texture sticks in the throat for only a second before it begins to fade. This is not that memorable overall but is simply your average brewpub wheat.

American have and in no way does it come you even close to the German hefe but it’s not bad for a brew pub.
