9th April 2015: cask, hand-pulled at the Isle of Man CAMRA beer festival. Badged as Okells Steam, no Premium mentioned, but at 5% ABV so assume it’s the same beer. Good old gold colour with a full head crown on top. Light malty backbone on a well hopped, citrusy body and nose. I liked the blend and the 5% ABV it carried: good. UPDATED: NOV 12, 2012 Cask handpull, The Briar Rose, Brum, 10/11/12. Orange gold capped with white. Really decent orange and pink grapefruit tang off the bat outshining the del Wotsit. Perfumed, stewed, well-judged squeeze of grapefruit over unobtrusive but solid malt. Deep bittering, back-of-tongue linger. Draped with condition. More understated orange, grapefruit, grass, thistle and floral aroma. Quietly delicious; approaching genuine IPA territory. Beer of The Festival for me. Apart from the Feral. And maybe the Roosters. Clear medium yellow amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sweet fruit. Flavor is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration, fruity, caramel. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.
Cask conditioned handpump Moon On The Square Northampton 08/11/12. A golden beer with a tight white head and lace. A lightly fruity beer with clean flavours. Hoppy hints with a touch of cookie dough. It’s the epitome of smooth as there are no edges. Passable and stylistically accurate I guess.
