Thanks to Owen for opening the growler
Deep orange ruby color. Off white head.
Lots of fruit in the nose. Tropical fruits to the max. Lots of guava and papaya. Notes of plum and sherry. Very English.
Taste is just plain too sweet. Molasses, candied fruits and sugar. Way too much attenuation. Needed hops to cut the sweetness. Slow as sipper. Massive sugar sweetness. Great look and smell but massive blow to the body in sugar. Interesting take on the style though. ALLOVATE (3014) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 19, 2012

One of the last beers of the day and deservedly so it was. Oily and viscous looking; a ruddy chestnut in body that simply shimmered in the afternoon sun. Headless and near void of carbonation – so no mucking about this was a serious ale! Medicinal, whacky and indubitably English barleywine-esque is the thickly waft that continues to lift. Sherryish with plenty of caramelised plum and rhubarb, bitter orange zest, lavender and rose petals, sticky, sweet malts and alcohol spice. Thick, syrupy rich melanoidins infuse the palate into a retentive frenzy. Lots of molasses, dark, deep malts, treacly fruits and burnt, caramelised fruit mince late giving it an apex of bitterness before trailing off warming and fuelled. Floral, piney and earthy linger to shade the sweet flavours of the malt and co. Really warms the cockles. Would love to see this one bottled. Very well made and good to see another English style Barley wine produced here in Perth.
