Side by side tasting of 2011 and 2014. Both excellent, but very different. Will be interesting to revisit the 2014 in a couple of years to see how it develops. Both poured deep, dark brown with a minimal off white head, interestingly the older vintage was the more lively looking. The 2011 was smooth and slightly vinous, a hint of liquorice (more in the 2014), dark chocolate, warm and wooden (harsher in the newer vintage, sweetly sinuous in the older). Excellent whatever way you look at it.

2011 and 2014 vintages drank side by side huge thanks to kermis and scotty001. Massive bourbon on the nose of the older vintage! Older bottle has huge vanilla, fudge, brown sugar, palm sugar, sweet soy sauce. Newer one has way less vanilla, but has light smoke, old wood, lots of berry jam, dry herbal touches. Both are very sweet, but the newer one has a dry long lasting bitterness where the 2011 vintage is less bitter. Both are full bodied, very thick and have low carbonation. Massive beers! Both are lovely but I prefer the 2011 one.

Thanks for sharing, Greg! 275 ml brown bottle, 2012 Vintage. Near-opaque brown, reddish at the corners, spritzy beige head of tiny bubbles, somewhat lasting with nice lacing coating the glass. Some yeast sediment from bottle conditioning. Rich malty flavour, burnt caramel, medium roast coffee, dark chocolate, toasty and a little roasty, a little sticky but not cloying, just the right amount of toasted oak impression. The bitterness balance comes from a cool combination of English hops and charred grain. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, a little leathery oxidation, long-lasting. Ridiculously delicious, one of the greatest beers ever.

Bottled. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, notes of berries anddark fruit notes. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and slightly bitter. Excellent Impy. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Boutip (6097) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 6, 2016
Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a medium size dark brown foamy head with some retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with nice black chocolates notes is pretty awesome. Taste is a nice mix of chocolate malt with light roasted malt with limited oak presence that rounds off any rough edges to this beer. Body is full with oily like texture and medium carbonation with no apparent alcohol. This is pretty quintessential English style stout with smooth flavours and easy drinking notes and without any extreme cloying flavours.

Black beer. Has a light-brown head, diminishing. Heavy complex aroma, lightly roasted, chocolate, raspberries, solvents and lightly cider-wood. Harmonic.

275ml bottle. I guess since the Brits have small cocks, they make smaller bottles of beer too. Anyway, I chugged the entire thing in under 5 seconds. It was roasty, oaky and thick. Pretty tame. THANKS RICH!!!
