Catchup rate. Pre-load prior to Jonski lunch (make of that what you will!). Bottle via eebria. 2013 vintage. Ok so this is the big one. Everyone raves about it, so it had to be done. Black, brown head. Big malty chocolate fruity coffee. Full thick body, soft fizz. Boozy but well hidden until you get up. I think it is the subtlety that gets this one the rates - not too full on, just really good and complex. I did like it a lot and very happy to share it with the main man. Bottle shared with Desverger. Many thanks Reuben. (2011 Vintage). Pours pitch black with a brown head. Aroma and taste is roasted malts, chocolate, dried fruits, coffee, oak. Full body. Very smooth on the palate. Soft carbonation. Smooth finish with alcohol notes. Very delicious. spycow (21) - Illinois, USA - DEC 26, 2015
Had the pleasure of trying this a few times over the last few years. This is quite the beer. The aroma of a good english stout that is black as coal. Taste is rich, thick and chocolatey. Hits your palate with this a big punch of a stout but doesn’t feel or taste like a 11% stout. Look forward to trying this again. Cheers! Desverger (13698) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - DEC 23, 2015
Bottle thanks to Ed, shared with Niller, Hammel, DK (2011 Vintage) - inky black coloured pour with thin tan head. Aroma and taste is sweet and roasted malty, big bold chocolate notes, some dark fruit, soy, some subtle burnt malty sugar notes, so smooth and luxurious on the palate, wooden oaky nuances, subtle vanilla trace into the finish. Outrageously immense. Love it,

2012 bottle. Pours thick. In aroma a lot of cacao, brown sugar, muscovado. In taste beautiful sweet cacao, nice bitter from the black malts but like in a good espresso bitter, muscovado, minerals, salty, and a beautiful earthy flavour. No barrel effect perceived. The beer is beautifully balanced. Very very nice in palate, nice balance between sweet, salt, bitter and velvet mouthfeel. One of the best RIS I’ve drank ever ever.
Thanks berntholer for sharing this great one. Christos (5909) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - NOV 15, 2015
UPDATED: NOV 20, 2015 (Old Chimneys Good King Henry Special Reserve) Re-rate, bottle 275 ml at home, from an IP trade with BenH, thanks Ben! Vintage 2012, served into a snifter, ABV 11%
Same appearance as previous rating, totally black with a finger of thick, dark brown head, with great retention.
Aroma of vanilla, cheddar, wood, roasted malts, whiskey, faint alcohol.
Much better taste than previous bottle, the soy sauce has gone, instead lots of roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, notable alcohol, liquorice, whiskey like it’s barrel aged, cheddar.
Full body, nicely carbonated.
Fantastic, once again, even better than the previous bottle.
Bottle 275 ml from a trade with cgarvieuk a couple of years ago at Borefts, vintage 2010. Served into a snifter, ABV 11%
Black as the night colour on the body, absorbing all light and thick as motor oil. One full finger of thick, dark brown head sitting on top, with great retention.
Aroma has lots of vanilla, alcohol, wood, roasted malts, soy sauce, light liquorice.
Taste is sweet but not cloying, lots of roasted malts, coal and ash on the finish, vanilla, hints of alcohol every now and then and as it warms up but otherwise well hidden, soy sauce, plums, dark fruits, faint chocolate. I could just keep writing, the more it warms up the more it reveals.
Thick, full body with good carbonation.
Amazing, even at 5 years old. 9-4-8-4-18=4.3
