Darker than an Ale but lighter than a Stout, the Porter is an old London beer style that dates back to the early 1700's. Some say it's named so because of it's popularity among the young men working as luggage porters in that city.

At the wa craft beer showcase, aroma of chocolate and roast coffee. Taste is decent nice coffee taste with a hint of chocolate.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Nose is full of dark fruits, light spice and brown sugar. Sweet yet appealing stuff with a dark and raisiny twist. Taste is juicy raisin and plum with heavy roast, toast, a touch burnt with dry cacao. Mildly spice driven. Good drop

Tasting from late 2008.
On draught at the brewery. Murky, muddy brown donned by a flaccid, off-white that lasts and laces well. Chocolate-coated sultanas and damp peaty soil nose, quite subdued. Coffee mocha flavours upfront in the mouth, sweetish start also has a hint of honey. Quite musty and earthy with a little peat and wood mid-palate and long into the swallow. Mildly bitter malt peak in back, good firm body and nice residual carbonation gave the impression of a cask conditioned ale. Good depth of flavour here, works well, just sits a little heavy in the stomach to be sessionable. One was enough.

330ml bottle. Mahoganey colour with a volcanic tan head that is rocky and settles fairly quickly. Aromas of aniseed and chocolate which are a bit faint. A hidden sweetness in the flavour with some fennel and liquorice flavours that come through. Smooth and easy to drink with a good mouthfeel. Nice offering.

Was expecting a robust porter style. Smooth chocolate on the nose and in the taste, touch of coffee following in the aroma. Probably the one for a session for me, or the Harris bitter.
