COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Based on the Traditional Bamberg style smoked lagers, this beer is similar to an Oktoberfest/Marzen but with smoked malt accounting for part of the grist. It has a subtle but distinct smokey flavor and aroma to complement the toasty malt profile. Initial release: 8/2011

Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a hazy red-caramel color with a large creamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was bacon, wood and smoke. The flavor was bacon, wood, smoke and had a bready undertone. Medium length finish. Medium body. Ok.

The first beer that I tried from the brewing company and loved it enough to get a growler. Has a nice smokey aroma and flavor. Smooth malty finish.

Pours dark brown from tap with an inch or two of khaki foam. You definitely get a smoky malty thing on the nose. There’s a fair amount of carbonation as well which seems to deepen the taste. Thankfully there’s as much malty goodness on the tongue as there is on the nose. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite styles as this is a pretty good version.

Pours a clear dark amber with a tinge if orange under a small tight bubbled off-white head that retained as a thin covering. The nose is lightly smoky, with a good bit of sweet and toasted maltiness. I think they got the description right on for this one, smells just like a smoked Oktoberfest. The flavor has a decent amount of smoke, but the sweetness of the malt plays it down quite a bit. Nice campfire quality to the smoke, tastes authentic. The sweetness on the finish is what turns me off a bit. I’d prefer it a bit drier. Mouthfeel is fairly thick and chewy with nice soft gentle carbonation. I like it, but I’d like to see it a bit tweaked.
