Tap. Bull Run Taphouse. Pours a clear dark brown body with a small fizzy beige head that fell to a thin covering. Looks very Schwarzbier like essentially. The nose is pretty light, just a little chocolate and licorice from the malt and a little bit of noble hops. The flavor is pretty odd, there’s a little licorice, but not as much as you would expect from a Schwarzbier, and a little chocolate but not as much as a porter. I suppose it is a bit of a bastard beer as far as style goes. The hops are pretty muted, especially due to the malt mix, but come out a bit more on the finish. Medium bodied, a little sticky on the back end, fizzy carbonation. Not so sure about this one, it’s not bad in any way, but I just don’t know what to make of it I guess. I suppose I lean toward really good interpretations of classic styles vs. the new rage in hybridizing styles. Didn’t have a problem finishing the glass or anything, but probably wouldn’t order a second. tcane7 (1674) - Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 26, 2012
Draft at Old Forge. Poured black with off-white head and lacing. Did not taste 7%. Mild roasted malts some earthy hops.
