Presentation: 22 oz. brown bottle, served in a snifter.
Appearance: It has a deep dark brown color, almost black. No light shines through it. Thereís no head to speak of but thereís some tan colored lacing on the glass.
Smell: It has a very prominent wood scent, with some roasted malt and coffee notes. Thereís also a sweet dark chocolate smell and a rum sting in the nose as well.
Taste: Itís a very sweet taste, mainly of roasted malts and coffee. Thereís also a strong note of rum that balances everything out with the correct amount spiciness. The wood presence is very prominent, the flavor of the entire beer could benefit from some time in the bottle or maybe less time in the rum barrels (itís aged for 6 months). Not to say the taste is bad in any way, on the contrary. But it takes away from the rest of the elements.
Mouthfeel: Itís extremely smooth and creamy, almost like syrup, with very little carbonation. The syrup like texture could use a bit of softening up. Again, it could be fixed with some more time in the bottle or less time in the barrel.
Overall: A very good and complex beer that needs some time to be appreciated. Best to take it in small quantities like a spirit. Itís a very original concept thatís very good to have in the Puerto Rican beer scene. 750ml bottle that a friend brought up to DC from the brewery. Pours a slightly viscous, oily, opaque black with some soapy, off white head. Nose is an interesting blend of wood, nail polish, some spice, a little play-doh, but also licorice, molasses, toast, Kahlua. Flavor is nice as well, well balanced, sweet malt, molasses, brown sugar, a little soap, some orange zest, some black pepper, some wood pulp, touch of booze. Full, sweet, soapy finish. Interesting. 750ml bottle, bought @ OHB. $20/bottle!!! Pours black. Chocolate colored foam. Aroma is up there with Dark Lord, Darkness, and such. Smells like booze, dark sugar, rum oak. Rich burnt flavors, coffee, roasted malts, char, licorice, loads of molasses. Lingering flavors of wood & rum. Lasting hints of molasses. Overall flavors of dark sugars in wood. Heavy bodied. From notes. Brought a bottle from the brewery to Toronto to share with fellow aficionados. Poured a reddish dark amber colour with a slight foamy head. Bottle from SHIG. Aroma and flavor of rum and complementary IS notes. The stout flavors were light coffee and toasted malts, but this beer is all about the rum balance to the stout. Not particularly strong, yet very effective. Very tasty and well made beer. Thanks for recommending and sending me one bud!

Bottle: Poured a red edged brown with thin off white to beige head. Aroma is rum, vanilla, roasted malt, and dark fruit. Taste is slightly sweet with vanilla and roasted malt, nice boozy rum/alcohol burn in the end.
