This one really surprised me. Huge syrupy and creamy body, tons of rum, nuts, coffee, chocolate truffle caramel, raisin, graham cracker, grapefruit, tangerine, and char.
It starts out very sweet and choclatey, segues into a rum raisiny middle, and finishes with assertively resinous hops. Very balanced and intense. Finesse is somewhat lacking, otherwise this stout might be in my all time top three or four, but for the sheer immensity of it (it’s even bigger than The Abyss, and similar in that respect to Bell’s Expedition), it gets mega-points.

Seriously one of my favorite stouts. Super rich and chocolatey and rivals any non-barrel aged limited release stout from around the country. The balance and smoothness as opposed to a DL like syrupiness is what draws me back to this beer time and time again. Work of art. kevinsenn (2263) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 17, 2012
Bottle kindly shared by toffsbury. Pours ink black with a thick brown head. Aroma is... wow - chocolate, coffee, some vanilla and bourbon - wow. Taste: rich, smooth, creamy, mocha taste, with some vanilla. Bitter finish. Thick and smooth on the tongue. deprogram (115) - Renton, Washington, USA - OCT 20, 2012
There’s enough wax here to make the bottle hard to open, but that’s just going to preserve this pretty much forever in your basement. Pours thick and dark and pretty, slick and oily. Easily a definitive imperial stout. This will set the bar high for me for a while. toffsbury (118) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 17, 2012
Intoxicating aroma. Chocolate coffee vanilla and bourbon and wonderful. Pours with a nice caramel head and perfectly black and opaque. Flavour is a mix of chocolate and espresso up front, with vanilla and creme brûlée undertones. Good gods. This makes me so happy. Very smooth, almost like a milk stout. Roasty coffee flavours linger on the tongue long after your sip is done. This beer is highly underrated.

Aromas of dark Chocolate, molasses, oak, roast, malty pours with a dense mocha colored foam and black color with ruby highlight, great mouthfeel, bittersweet, with flavors similar to the aroma. Nena (963) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 30, 2011
UPDATED: FEB 3, 2011 Black pour, short light tan head. Great nose on this: lots of dark cherry and dried fruit aroma, slightly ashy, coffee, slightly sweet chocolate. Starts out with chocolate cherry cordial flavors, a strong ashy charred hit in the middle, and a very bitter, resin, slightly woody finish. Moderately heavy body. This is a really nice, layered stout that balances well between the strong flavors of sweetness, char, and bitterness. Sometimes I’m really in the mood for a big, brash beer, and this mroe than satisfies that craving. daknole (11050) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - AUG 20, 2011
Dark brown pour, tan head. Aroma is roasty, hoppy, char, roast, spicy hops. Flavor is a nice blance between cocoa, hops, and roast. IrishBoy (4228) - Bakersfield, California, USA - OCT 31, 2011
Bomber from 5000! Nose is heavy chocolate, roasty coffee, , molasses, and even a note of smoke in the background. Black with a big, heavy lacing, cinnamon tan head. Flavor is coffee, smoke, choclate, coffee, and light bitterness. Finish is a bitter smokiness. superspak (5871) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - DEC 11, 2011
22 waxed ounce bottle into snifter, no bottle date but it is not going matter. Pours thick black color with a nice 1 finger dense tan head with great retention that reduces to a thin lacing cap. Some decent lacing clings to the glass as well. Aromas of big toasted malt, chocolate, caramel, molasses, spicy hops, and bitter coffee. Some nice and well balanced aromas. Taste of big dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, caramel, light charcoal, and a bit of spicy hops. Fair amount of coffee bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, charcoal, and caramel on the finish for a while. Great balance of flavors. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a nice creamy, slick, and fairly thick mouthfeel that goes down fairly easily. Pretty easy to drink, but it is still a sipper. Overall this is an outstanding imperial stout, and one of the more roasty ones I have had. Fantastic stuff here, glad I picked this up randomly in MD.
