On tap at old toad rochester. one of the house beers it seems. Deep dark murkey amber, ruby edges. Smokiness is apperent in nose. Taste starts with roasted malt, then a kIck to the junk comes the smoke. Enjoyable and serves well as an aperitif.Medium to full bodied.
On tap at the Old toad. Poured a dark, almost translusent black with a red tint. A smokey aroma with hint of hops and malty sweetness. Roasted sweet malt upfrount with smoky ending. MadRobin (2988) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - MAR 29, 2012
On tap sample at Custom Brewcrafters in Honeoye Falls, NY.
A clear, almost opaque, very dark brown with only a thin film of a head, but thick, beautiful lacing.
Faint, albeit pleasant aroma of coffee and dark malts. There is more there, but it's too faint for my nose to distinguish.
Taste is much more robust with rich coffee and chocolate flavors and a distinctly smoky character followed by bitterness from a hop finish. Yet, the balance seemed a little short of greatness. I was frustrated that after the initial robust flavor, I was left wanting something more by the finish.
Medium mouthfeel with light carbonation.
Overall, I found this beer close to being great, but was left disappointed by its missed potential. E.g., its faint aroma; amazing lacing, but virtually no head; or the flavor profile that hints at greatness.

Reddish tinge to the dark yet clear beer. Not much head or lacing. Chocolate and roasted notes in the nose. Nutty taste + milk chocolate. Good. Very popular selection at the toad.
