UPDATED: OCT 23, 2008 Got a bottle of this and headed around for a second try. Pours a reddish copper with a crackling yellow 2 finger head. The nose is very very oaky, bourbon comes through, warming, malty, sweet, some raisin. The flavor is very spicy oak, sweet, vanilla, bourbon, a tad hot, malty. The palate is warm and spicy oak. Could be a better BW as a base but I think the oak and bourbon comes through very nicely. heemer77 (5355) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - JUN 8, 2008
Noogfest ’08. The body was deep amber and copper with an off white head. The aroma has some sweet bourbon notes. There was also some caramel and vanilla. The taste was massive bourbon with some vanilla. Not much else going on as the barrel aging dominates. illinismitty (2271) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JUN 1, 2008
Bottle at Noogfest 08 courtesy of KP. Pours copper amber with an off white head. Aroma is boozy with hints of vanilla. Medium bodied but somewhat thin for a barleywine. Whiskey dominates this beer and makes this too hot. There needs more rich maltiness and hops to counter barrel aging. I may be a black sheep, but this did not wow me. I felt like I was drinking a shot of bourbon. Shag (2981) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - MAY 31, 2008
A copper color with a white head. The aroma is oak, whiskey, cherries, and alcohol. The flavor contains some vanilla, whiskey, dark fruit, caramel, and a some citrus as well. Overall a nice and complex barleywine. Long name too!! kp (10882) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - MAY 11, 2008

Source: Brewfest, Hickory Hops
Appearance: cloudy dark burnt orange, fine off white head, bits of drippy lace
Aroma: huge dark caramel aroma with lots of bourbon and vanilla sweetness balanced by a touch of background oak
Flavor: big bourbon and vanilla flavor, lots of oak adds balance, dark caramel adds extra sweetness, lots of fruityness rises out of the sweetness but is restrained by the oak, long lasting bitter finish
Overall: should age relly well to allow the fruity character to ripen

bottle follows the draft very closely, gets very alcoholic upon warming

where has the time gone?, still rich caramel with a good dose of bourbon, fruityness never did develop, oxidation picks up an almost vegitable character,
Aroma: 8/10; Appearance: 7/10; Flavor: 8/10; Palate: 7/10; Overall: 16/20

22oz bottle. Vintage 2007. Aroma of big caramel, vanilla, and heat. Flavor of vanilla cake. Nice fizz. Lots of caramel. Big burn going down. Nice bourbon presence. ChainGangGuy (4894) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - MAY 5, 2008
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2010 Appearance: Pours a clear, dark amberish body with a small, thin ring of white bubbles.
Smell: Ah, sweet-smelling bourbon at the fore. Toasty caramel, some hints of fruits, and then it’s back to bourbon! Gee, they ain’t fucking around.
Taste: As you’d expect from the nose, it’s all at once bourbon in the flavor. Warming, yes, but not grotesquely hot. Toasted caramel maltiness and, again, there’s that fruit. Medium sweetness. Tastes of toasted oak and vanilla. A tannic pinch leads you to the increasingly warming finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A solid bourbony barleywine. Word on the street is that this is their very first bottle release. If so, congrats, as this isn’t a bad way to start things off. StoutCat (89) - North Laurel, Maryland, USA - MAY 3, 2008
Pours a deep amber brown with a thin ivory head. Sweet bourbon and caramel aroma and flavor. Pretty good brew CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAY 3, 2008
Pours a transparent copper amber with a spotty-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet caramely malt and bourbon oak with some complex light fruity notes. Body starts with a nice viscosity and caramel malty sweetness balanced with plenty of oaky bourbon and light fruity notes before a warming finish. A pretty nice barrel-aged barleywine, but could use a little time to mellow. shp555 (2024) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAY 3, 2008
