From a bomber. Pours black and opaque with a decent sized khaki head. Nice roasted malt aroma- smoky, chocolate, earth, coffee. Taste is the same and it drinks like it means it. Mouthfeel is pretty slick and full- almost drinks more like a stout but tons of hops pretty much negate that feeling quickly. Nice bitterness to it. Like a happy marriage of stouts and IPA’s. Easy to sip on- could be a summer or winter beer. Clever.

Draft - Grapefruit hops with no roast. Jet black with a rich beige head. Big overpowering bitterness, grapefruit and roast. Much too bitter. Strykzone (7659) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - FEB 7, 2014
Flight at Sunny Point. Black with red. A blotchy beige head. I smell earth with rich malts andspicy hops. Oniony hops, dammit. I don’t like oniony hops. I am pretty much gone after noting the hops. My loss. deyholla (12254) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 7, 2014
On tap. Pours a near clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of earthy grass and dark grains as well as a pine bitterness. Flavor has more pine and resin with a creamy dark grain backing. drowland (9057) - Georgia, USA - NOV 30, 2013
11/27/13. Enjoyed on tap while walking around the Downtown Market. Almost black pour, nice khaki head. Nice aroma, some ash, coffee, and chocolate with a small dose of citrus hoppiness. Nicer flavor, good balance of dark, roasted malts and citrus hop burst. Tasty!

Poured from a bottle into a Spiegelau tulip. From notes, July 26, 2012.
A: Rich roasted malts and some hoppy goodness. Roast, dark chocolate, nice piney and citrus hops, and maybe some coffee in the background.
A: Poured a pitch black with a massive two-finger head that was fairly light in color.
T: Dark roasted malt and pine and citrus zest hops up front. The aftertaste brings about cocoa and coffee ground flavors. There is a medium amount of bitterness in the middle before the cocoa and coffee flavors kick in that slowly fades after each sip.
P: Medium carbonation, dry finish, active carbonation.
O: A decent but largely unexciting Black IPA. Maybe a little astringent, but a really good mix of a bitter ipa and a slightly roasted stout. arventresca (563) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - OCT 15, 2013
Tap at Duckworths. Black in appearance. Creamy offering. A perfect balance of the styles. hman43 (1773) - Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA - OCT 12, 2013
It is a blend of chocolate, citrus, raisins, and grapefruit in the aroma. It is black with a medium brown head. It has a strong coffee flavor with medium bitterness. There is also grapefruit with other citrus flavors. There is also a hint of raisins. 574deadzone (1419) - North Central, Indiana, USA - SEP 1, 2013
Pours pitch black with a rocky khaki head that descends to a ring and leaves some stringy lace. Nose involves fresh evergreen and mint hop notes along with roast coffee and some cream. Fairly sweet and fairly bitter. Medium bodied, oily, with a toasty and hoppy bitter finish. A nice black IPA, definitely roast forward but not too much so, with a nice complimentary hop profile. 22oz bottle, thanks to DanielCoor. Bottle says best before 8/13. Shared with friends. Pretty much almost black color. Brown on the edges. Interesting nose. Kind of smokey, burnt sugars. Little dark chocolate. Light to moderate roast. Lightly citrusy, spicy hop, a good amount, contributes a nice bitter taste. Minimal sweet. Bigger body. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Enjoyable, smooth, easy drinking black IPA.
