COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Raven is a black IPA, aka Cascadian Dark Ale. Roasted malts give this beer its dark color & rich flavor. But make no mistake, this is still an IPA, with a massive amount of hops selected to balance the roasted malt character & add bitterness & flavor. Available on draft and for a limited time only.

on draft at wwbf asheville. the instant aroma of hops and roasted malts jumping out at you. this poured almost black with smallish head. the flavor of those hops was quite good and refreshing. truly becoming a black ipa fan. love the mix of the roastiness of the malts mixed with lots of hops. should have bought a few bottles while there.

22oz bottle from JCB, thanks Jason! Pours a very deep brown, almost black colored body with a finger-width, dense, creamy and frothy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves lots of pretty lacing. Aroma is really solid with lots of juicy citrus florals and earthy hops as well as some pine resins. A nice roast comes in behind the hops with a solid caramel and light chocolate malt backing. Flavor has more earthy hops and a roasted bitterness up front before a good amount of citrus florals comes in. Some pine resins and juicy grapefruits with a light-moderate caramel and cocoa malt backing. Finishes roasty, earthy, and moderately bitter with some juicy citrus florals, light pine resins, and some dankness to the hops. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a soft, creamy and frothy, moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid Black IPA. I liked the aroma a bit more than the flavor, but this had a good balance between harder roasts, juicy citrus florals, earth, resiny pines, and enough of a malt backing that kept everything together. Easy drinking and enjoyable. Nice beer.

Bottle shared by jmborggren. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt, earthy hop aroma. Medium to full body with a dry slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a very good complex beer.

22 oz. bottle shared by jeremy. Pours a clear dark brown with a small/medium sized beige head. The aroma is roasted malts, a mild nutty character, chocolate and ash, but surprisingly very little hops. The flavor has all of the characteristics of a porter; roasted malts, ash, dark chocolate with some dry bitterness at the finish. There are some mild resiny and earthy hop notes, but not much. If this were presented as a porter I would be more into it. It lacks enough hop character to be considered an ipa. Overall, this does have good flavor though.

Bomber that has been sitting in my parent’s fridge since I visited over a year ago. Black pour with a thin tan head and strong lacy retention. Aroma is chocolate, roasted coffee, grapefruit and maple. Tastes are burnt toast, caramel, coffee, earthy citrus bitter. Good balance. Thin to medium creamy texture. Nice.

22oz bottle, thanks to DanielCoor. Bottle says best before 8/13. Shared with friends. Pretty much almost black color. Brown on the edges. Interesting nose. Kind of smokey, burnt sugars. Little dark chocolate. Light to moderate roast. Lightly citrusy, spicy hop, a good amount, contributes a nice bitter taste. Minimal sweet. Bigger body. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Enjoyable, smooth, easy drinking black IPA.

11/27/13. Enjoyed on tap while walking around the Downtown Market. Almost black pour, nice khaki head. Nice aroma, some ash, coffee, and chocolate with a small dose of citrus hoppiness. Nicer flavor, good balance of dark, roasted malts and citrus hop burst. Tasty!

Pours a respectable black with a touch of ruby in it. Aroma is amazing... dark chocolate, some espresso and a touch of smoke rounds out the awesome nose. Somewhere though, there is a bit of sweet citrus playing in the nose. Clean flavor of citrus and pine followed by dark roasted malt and smokey cocoa. Overall, this was really pleasurable to drink.

On tap at Mac’s Speed Shop. Pours very dark brownish black with tan head. Aromas of pine, some citrus, some roast, and caramel. Flavors of piney hops, bit of citrus, some earthy notes along with some caramel. Nicely balanced black IPA.

Black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is toasted malt and a light resin. Toasted malt and resiny hops on the flavor. Medium bodied with good carbonation.
