Dark black/brown cola colored pour with a very rapidly fading khaki head. Nice pine/citrus hop aroma over subtle malty notes. Coffee chocolate mocha flavor with a blast of hop bitterness. Medium bodied with medium-high tingly carbonation and moderate astringency. Very nice. One of my favorite Olde Hickory beers. ross (2146) - weddington, North Carolina, USA - DEC 23, 2011
Bottle. Black colored pour with a tan head on it. Smell is hoppy, malty, and has a fair amount of roasted chocolate in the nose. Taste sweet and hoppy, smooth and easy to drink. Refreshing to a certain degree...followed it up with a Stone Sublimely - no comparison. mar (5439) - Dallas, Texas, USA - DEC 24, 2011
bottle thanks to exiled. dark brown pour with a cream head. nose is roasted malts, hops, florals, and lightly bitter. smooth on the palate, roasted malts upfront followed by citrus, florals, and a roasty finish. bu11zeye (13215) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - JAN 5, 2012
(22oz bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a medium beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, citrus, and grass. Flavor of roasted malt, grass, chocolate, pine, and citrus with a bitter finish. thehoplocal (11) - Sykesville, Maryland, USA - NOV 5, 2012
Not much on the nose, but what is there smells very good. It doesn't look so great either. Dark brown and cloudy. But who cares? I didn't by this to look at and sniff. It tastes very good. Hoppy with a bunch of chocolate. Really good interpretation of cascadian dark.

On tap. Pours a near clear dark brown with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of earthy grass and dark grains as well as a pine bitterness. Flavor has more pine and resin with a creamy dark grain backing. Lubiere (14151) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 5, 2014
A dark brown ipa with a thin mocha head. In aroma, bitter chocolate malt with herbaceous character, floral hops, resinous, strange. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate with good floral hops, resinous, grapefruit pulp, nice and smooth. On tap at Olde Hickory Station. MartinT (10036) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 10, 2014
My Bottom Line:TURDFERGUSON (4068) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - FEB 14, 2011
Toasted malts and resinous hops combine in this balanced Black IPA.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam protects the mahogany-hued brown.
-Earthy angles appear from the malt-hop combination.
-Drinkability is rather high.
-The flavor profile is not intense for the style, which I appreciate.
On tap at the Olde Hickory Station.
Bottle from TJ’s shared by Ethan. Nose of light roast, cocoa, resinous hops. Not much flavor, very blah. Mouthfeel is creamy at first, but finishes chalky and bitter. Light astringency. tronraner (2459) - Walland, Tennessee, USA - AUG 28, 2011
Sample at a tasting at Suttree’s. Pours blackish brown with beige head. The aroma is molasses, maple syrup, strong fruity hoppiness, a little bit of grapefruit and keffir lime. The flavor is citric American hops, some charred wood, and a nice tannic bitterness. Straightforward but tasty.
