Bottle:   Black, thin to moderate foamy sandy head, nice lacing.   Bakers chocolate and soft roasted malts on the nose.   Very dry bakers chocolate and soft roasted malts on the tongue.   Not bitter, not too sweet, very dry, with a roasted malt background.   Body and mouthfeel are fairly moderate.   Not too big in body, somewhat thin but not watery.   Very simple finish, soft roast with some bakers chocolate, mild bitterness, dry.   Tiz okay, but fairly average.   Thanks Jeff! boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - OCT 3, 2012

Aroma is mostly roasted malt hints of raisins. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Taste is roasted malt and a hint of sweetness. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Overall, enjoyable.

Pours very dark and thick with only a moderate head. Nice roasted flavors to it and thick, though really easy to drink. Good stout.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is fairly straightforward but is pretty nice. I get a lot of chocolate and roasted malt notes in the aroma, two qualities that are repeated in the flavor. In addition, I also get some coffee notes in the flavor which go nicely with the other characteristics. Bottle. Pours nearly black with a medium-sized tan head that leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, some coffee and chocolate, some citrus and floral hops. Flavor is roasty malt, some coffee and chocolate, hints of vanilla, citrus, and some light tartness. Not a big fan of hopped stouts; the citrusy notes in this one leave me a bit cold. Originally reviewed: 1/26/10. Bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a very deep black with a thin cola-like head on top. This pops and fizzles away to nothing pretty quick. Leaves some really pretty sip rings and sticky globs on the glass though. Scents of mild roasted coffee, burnt matches, and grassy hops. I like that hop scent in a big dark beer!
The body is creamy and smooth with a bit of heaviness to it. Lightly drying finish. Great woodsy flavors in this beer. Like others have said, I’m not sure if Hickory was used in the making of this, but it does carry a wood-like flavor with it. Good black coffee flavors meld to a semi-sweet chocolate finish. Some bittering hops are noted as well. This is good, well-hopped Stout that I would not mind having again and again. So glad this is around the area now. The beer is dark brown in color with an off-white head. Pretty meh stout. Roasted malt is the primary aroma, otherwise it’s watery, bland, and boring. A mild acidity to the nose and a hint of coffee. The flavor is no different. Certainly overcabonated which doesn’t help out the mouthfeel or perception of acidity. Roasted malt, a bit of watery coffee, and maybe some chocolate. Overall, the same problem on the nose is present on the palate: this is just bland and watery.
