Last of the 2012 purchased at Brawley’s in Charlotte NC. Pours rich deep black brown. Head is a rich milk chocolate froth of small bubbles that quickly disappears. Nose is restrained rich deep chocolate notes. Taste is sweet dark chocolate bitters with just a hint of honey sweetness. The rich dark chocolate flavor broadens on the finish. A staggeringly good beer. demmbonz (732) - Erin, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 1, 2013
2013 bomber shared to tulips. Pours ink black with thick brown head. Super oily roasted huge flavors. Nice honey sweetness too. Excellent stout. ContemplateBeer (2089) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - JUN 11, 2013
Ed strikes again! A generous fellow. Aroma has lots of honey and very slight clove as a result, dark chocolate and raisin. Appearance is oily black with bubbly mocha head. Flavor matches the nose; a touch of smoke, and overall intense, deep and dry. Palate is medium, oily and pillowy soft. I thought this was excellent. UPDATED: SEP 26, 2016 Bomber 2013 vintage, thanks Russ, shared with Russ. Rich roasted malt aroma with notes of molasses, chocolate and a little bit of honey sweetness. Pours black with a thin dark brown head that has poor retention and lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt flavors with dark chocolate notes with a full body. Finishes very smooth with molasses and light honey flavors. Excellent imperial stout. Blairgus (4613) - California, USA - DEC 9, 2011
9 dec 2011, bottle. Amazing in every way! Smells and tastes like bourbon ages imp stout. Vanilla and oaky notes. Very sweet but dark chic stout is much bigger than in bourbon stouts. Lovely! maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - JUL 12, 2012
This beer will put some hair on your chest. Pours dark, thick, and black with very little head. Intense aroma of malt, coffee and chocolate. Taste is similar, but even more intense. Feels very thick and heavy, but in a pleasant way. Drake (13954) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 20, 2010
Waxed 22 ounce bottle from Bestway in Greensboro, NC, who, incidentally I heard is expanding their beer selection, which as it is now, means they’ll be taking out food to do so. You gotta love people that have their priorities in line. The bottle has a bit of age on it though I’m not sure how much. The beer pours pretty much pitch black with a thick, dense dark brown head that sticks around a while. Aroma of dark roasted malts with a bit of a dry smokiness, chocolate, honey and a bitter hop finish. The taste is dark roasted malts, honey, chocolate and a faint smokiness. Bitter hop finish. Medium-full bodied. I’m liking this one quite a bit. Well done. ChainGangGuy (4897) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - AUG 12, 2010
Appearance: Pours out a dark body black in color with a small-sized, beige-colored head.
Smell: A boldly roasty scent to lift this tired, lonely drinker’s spirits with striking notes of chunked bittersweet chocolate, a double-shot of espresso, and charred grains. Slightly lesser hints of vanilla bean and dark fruits.
Taste: Heavily roasty, heavily tasting of bittersweet chocolate, with a minor hint of vanilla. Like a top-notch, top-dollar mochachino or maybe fudge brownies. Roasty, earthy bitterness with a teensy bit of astringency. Some dark fruits buried within all this lavish maltiness. Late arriving molasses. Roasty, malty finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Nicely chewy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Quite good, this one. Olde Hick’s Imperial Stout is a force to be reckoned with.
